I am considering to change my SYD-HKG flight to QF117 two weeks from now. While seat map shows 1-2-1 on A333, I am quite worried that I would end up on EBG. Given it is only two weeks from now, how safe am I? I am currently ticketed on the morning A380 flight and is a redemption ticket.

I would have said pretty safe a few days ago given it appeared EBG had been relegated to Domestic and NZ duties for over a week.
But it's now done Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong (117/118) over the last three days.
EBE is well overdue to return to service but who knows whether EBG will replace it.

Bit of a moot point. They can't compete, but their website implies all A330s have a standard 1-2-1 flat-bed product. So passengers book and it's too late once they turn up at the airport.

CNS-MEL cancellation may make change things up @ps107 ... of course you can track historical routes here:

I survived. Got EBG but actually somehow had one of my best plane sleeps ever so can't really complain. The seat beside me was vacant so the aisle access issue was irrelevant, thankfully.
I overheard a few people disappointed it wasn't an A380. I purposely chose the A330 flight but wasn't counting on losing against the 1:28 odds

People who obviously don't look at the aircraft operating when booking.
QF35/36 and 37/38 are different, albeit for best connections to QF1/2 you need 330 one way, 380 the other.

While the newer 'Business Suite' looks nicer, it is somewhat cramped. (But the 'suite' certainly has more storage.)

Density wise the new Suite is similar to SkyBedI.
but you get a fully flat bed and more side room, at the expense of leg space and pitch (distance to seat in front)

Hi, it's Lucas here, aka "Mr. Muck-up" (after what happened in a particular thread that had to be shut down).
Anyway, the 330s will possibly never make it to LAX. When QF fly to LAX, they normally go via the Pacific. If the 330s were used on this route, they'd have to make a stopover or two in the Pacific, and I'm not even sure if such airports like PPT, NAN, NOU, etc. can handle a 330. It was a good idea that QF chose such aircraft like the 744, 388, 789, and if we go back further into the golden times, e.g. 1970s-2000s they used the "most advanced" aircraft at the time, such as the 743, 742, 74S, 701, 703, etc.
