Transfer Question

I have emailed QF and so far had no reply.

My question is I'm flying QF127 SYD-HKG and want to know will/can QF through check my bags to PVG connecting to a Dragon Air flight? If so what what is the minimum connecting time at HKG?

This would be on 2 separate itineraries as would book the HKG-PVG leg online.

My other option is overnighting in HKG but I have a flight at 4pm following day from PVG and would rather be in PVG overnight so I'm there.

I have googled my questions and searched the forum so apologies if this has been asked before and as always I appreciate any replies to my questions.

Regards.

Seems to be the case that QF will interline with KA per this post: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.c...nts-32031.html

Yes.

Dragonair is a oneworld carrier. QF will interline with oneworld carriers, doesn't matter if the flights are on same or separate tickets.

if it is separate tickets I would allow at least two hours to cover any delays. I also can't recall if QF can/will issue the KA boarding pass. so you'll either need to check in on line or visit the transfer desk.

officially the minimum connecting time varies by airline, with cx-cx being the shortest, and most others around an hour. but that's on the one ticket.

if your dragonair flight is an a320/321 it might leave from the small terminal which requires a bus. reports suggest you need to allow extra time for this.

not just reports, you need to allow at least 45 minutes for this...

ok! I've never left from there. is that 45 minutes from disembarkation to satellite gate?

Thanks so much for the replies guys. I'm looking at a Dragon Air flight that departs 105 minutes after I'm due to land at HKG and it's scheduled to be a an Airbus A330.

With that in mind do you know if it's a goer or not connection wise from the QF127? Not that I guess it matters what class I'm flying but I'm flying F on the 127.

Again another day and no reply to my original inquiry from QF.

I appreciate your time to my questions.

class doesn't make too much difference... will you give you a few minutes by virtue of leaving the aircraft first.

the trick is to find a good transit security checkpoint. the ones at the front (by immigration) can be very lengthy.

you need to be at the remote gate 45 minutes before departure.

On separate tickets , I would not have such a short connection unless the KA fare is a flexible one should you miss the flight

On separate tickets, should the inbound flight be late, there is no protection in place against late arrival

Thanks Dave, It's an "Economy Flex" fare but the next flight gets to PVG at midnight so I may well overnight at HKG and take a MU flight first thing the next morning at half of the Dragon Air price. Slight risk will be making my 4pm PVG-ORD flight.
