Using QFF from the US? help!
I'm ... confused.
What would be the best way (using oneworld partners, im assuming) to get from basically any city in the US to UAE using Qantas miles? Would I search on AA? And how do they convert, still using distance in miles? Thank you. Not familiar with oneworld at all... |

You can exit after the points quote without paying (points or $). |
Yeah, that was my issue that QF forces you to pick a city from that stupid drop down menu just to check. Argh ok, phone it is I guess. Any pointers from people who've done this route before? Thanks again.

You can only use QFF points (not miles) to book via QFF. You could book an award from the US city of your choice to LHR and then to DXB. The awards are distance based so the number of points will depend on the chosen route and the airline. Don't be too shocked by the fuel surcharges!

I would suggest picking a major departure city from the US rather than "any city" because QF will hammer you on points for the connection from the "any city" to the departure city. So, LAX, DFW, ORD (can be surprisingly good), JFK are all usually good places to search from as they have OW flights departing from them for DOH & BAH, etc.

The two most logical routes to me would be to fly via LHR on AA/BA and connect to BA/QF (after April).
Or via HKG on Cathay. |

Look at QF website first... They are pretty good for finding OW availability... If you can, then you are done... If not, go to BA website and find availability then call QF to book... Note that they will charge you phone agents fees

Or via HKG on Cathay. HKG is significantly longer than flying vie Europe even from the US West Coast. The other option for the OP would be to fly via AMM. |
AY or RJ would be my picks.

Thank you all. So... essentially even if i'm booking with BA or AA, the qantas points needed are still based on distance flown, right? That... kind of sucks. haha
