Business Lounges closed 26 December 2012 to 6 January 2013

This little note has turned up on the Qantas website:

Note: From 26 December 2012 to 6 January 2013, our Business Lounges in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra will be closed for routine maintenance. During this time, our Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers are invited to use our Qantas Clubs.

Strange that only the business lounges need maintenance, and all at the same time....

I don't know where or how Qantas will be able to find tradies to do the "maintenance" work during the xmas/ny period.

It doesn't say in the note but I assume (and hope) this is only the domestic business lounges. That the international business lounges at these locations will stay open over this period.

Fortunately the travel I am doing over this period is on DJ. i do find it hard to believe however that QF needs to implement a lounge closure on the entire lounge for every lounge during this period when they were all renovated while remaining opening.

Sheesh we're hard to please. If any particular lounge had to be closed for an issue in the middle of the year the chorus would be loud: "why don't they do this sort of maintenance at the end of the year while it's quiet". Instead they elect to do preventative maintenance and still people moan.

Yes, of course there are also potential economies in closing the business lounges over Christmas.

More dodgy lounge hours - the OOL lounge closes for lunch, every day from 1pm to 3pm

I think the peevishness is due to a belief - I'm not sure how founded - that economics is the main driver, not maintenance and the QF explanation is somewhat economical with the truth.

If there is maintenance going on, harrah and I'll compliment them and come back here and note it.

Interesting that Hilton is doing the same thing with some of its executive lounges also!

With forward planning.
It is typical for maintenance and refurbishment work to be undertaken in facilities that are in operation for the rest of the year that cannot be disrupted.
