Attempting to use QFF miles on AA JFK-CDG

I am using Qantas FF miles for a flight from NYC to Paris - on AA.
At the moment, I have to go via London.
That is NOT what I want to do.
So, I keep checking back with Qantas but they say no direct flights are showing up so keep calling.
Is there a more simple way of finding a free flight on AA?
Or do I need to go via the Qantas website?
Thanks !!

My recommendation is to use the Qantas website, since you'll be using QF miles for the award redemption (this post, by the way, might be better suited for Qantas' forum - I've alerted the MODs for review). There are some resources for checking availability of awards using QF miles:
- ExpertFlyer (a paid service, but a free 5 day trial is offered)
- AwardNexus
- KVS Tool

Good luck and safe travels!

Miamigrad,
Thanks for the info.
Really helpful! :)

We'll move these posts to the Qantas Frequent Flyer forum, since this is about using Qantas miles / points. The members there are much more familiar with the ins and outs of the programme, and it's more on topic there.

Happy travelling!

If the website keeps on trying to route you via LHR, then you'll need to phone the service centre, and pay the assisted booking fee.

It will help to actually find AA flights with availability first, so that you can actually say to the QF agent "But, but, but AA 1234 has availability....." and then let them book it.

You might be able to weasle out of paying the assisted booking charge, since it didn't show on the website, but I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks Dave!
Been checking EVERY day for direct flights since last November but none available :(
Was hoping there was some secret way of finding those flights.
Will keep checking with fingers crossed :)

I was looking for an award flight from CDG to JFK late last year. There simply wasn't any except on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. If you are looking for a specific day or date, you will be out of luck.

Have you tried a multi-city booking via MIA, which then has a direct flight to CDG?

Brendan Mar 2, 2012 3:43 pm

'Tis much better to fly New York to Paris via London than via Miami, which is plum the opposite direction, which would cost more QF miles! It's as nasty as Cairns via Sydney to Bangkok or Tokyo!

Granlor Mar 2, 2012 5:06 pm

It's one of those strange quirks of using QFF that JFK-CDG (via LHR on BA) is 35000pts but JFK-MIA-CDG (on AA) is only 36000pts. However the taxes, etc can be either $279 (all BA), $32 (AA/BA) or $5 (all AA via MIA). Some people would also pay good money to avoid a transfer in LHR. The direct flight MIA-CDG also gets you into Paris at a very sensible 9am.

Thank U, Grusselt. I thought the mile-price difference would be greater! How about via Wash. (IAD?)

Each to their own on sensible times :) ... I class overnight flights as anything other than sensible

JFk-CDG non-stop would be a nice cheap 25,000 points which is the best priced option though unfortunately overnight, but given the lower points cost , can see why would be desired

The points tables are at http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...s/pointsTables ; can calculate any routing options from the tables plus http://gc.kls2.com/ is good for getting mileages ( though can be out be a cpl against QF's calcs ).

Using AA ,check the Qantas Classic Award table http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...tsTables#jump0 and for other carriers across atlantic use the partner Classic award table http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...tsTables#jump2

There is no transatlantic flight on oneworld (afaik) from Washington

JFK-CDG (eg AA44) direct is the cheapest, but at 30000pts. It's also a bargain at $2.50 in taxes but the problem seems to be getting availability.

Hi.
What date do you want to fly?
Are you locked into a single date?
I used this route business class last year and based iterary around this routes availability .
There appears to plenty of flights especially in economy for July August Oct Nov direct JFK CDG and also a smattering of business class.
Regards.

BA has three daily IAD-LHR flights (except Thursdays when there are only two) and a daily BWI-LHR flight.

No non-stops to CDG though.
