Sadly no beers and chips for my ride in the Lampre-ISD team car earlier this year but plenty of cycling. Sadly Qantas failed to load both our bikes for the flight home and broke two wheels off brand new bike bag. Confirmed Virgin as my new domestic carrier where possible as a result. Token $250 voucher from QF is the worst part considering we were flying business and I am Platinum and the wife is Gold.

Urgghhhh! What a sad way to end what sounds like a brilliant trip. I'll be shipping a couple of bikes SFO-SYD later this year, but it'll be UA's tender hands that are responsible for that. I can only assume that the "don't need to care as the bike bags look strong" law was used by baggage handlers.

what about Jamie Lee Curtis?

A few years ago I was flying first class in the second row on AA between LAX and JFK and Jamie Lee Curtis was sitting in the front row. For most of the flight she had her bare legs up against the bulkhead. I really didn't mind at all ;)

As a sad postscript, a few days later I read that her mother, Janet Leigh, had died in a Los Angeles hospital and that Jamie had been visiting her. I guess that was why she was on the flight.

Sorry, but it couldn't have been Jamie Lee Curtis. The premise of this thread is that only Australians indulge in that sort of behaviour. It was obviously a bogan look-alike, probably Julia Gillard in a wig. ;)

The trick is to make the bike bag/ box as light as possible. I shipped my wife's new frame SEA-SYD via UPS without any issues. Box turned up in immaculate condition without a mark on it. Box had a massive "hand load only" sticker on it. My wife seems to overpack her bike bag and hence it gets treated not that great. Pack it light and it should be fine (ie bike only). I carry my helmet literally onboard so it is visible and I can be sure it doesn't sustain a transit related impact.

Back on topic, lots of flip flops and singlets on the plane at the end of the Tour Down Under in Adelaide. Mostly European related.

I love the fact that Air NZ have it as one of their FAQs on airnz.com.au: "Do I have to wear shoes when travelling on an Air New Zealand flight?"

Happens on many carriers, have seen it myself on DL and AA.

I find that a significant amount of Australians, when traveling around Asia in particular, act like they are God's gift to the world. Their behaviour makes me embarrassed to be holding an Australian passport and is part of the reason why I will NEVER travel to places such as Bali. Recently on a trip to Australia, I was quite disappointed when my hotel had quite a few cashed-up bogans.

I have been to conference in Malta with my colleague. He is now proud Australian, born in UK. He was deeply ashamed by behaviour of thousands of British "tourists" who behaved worse than pigs in Malta. I have never ever seen so many drunk people at 9 in the morning like there and I have never ever seen so many obese men displaying their cracks in the street and attacking every female that dared to cross their path...

I have many friends in Europe and many of them are refusing to holiday in many popular spots any more due to "polution" by misbehaving Brits...

And BTW, this was before Pound fell down against Euro, so it is not as bad nowadays, but still is...

I have also heard stories from restaurant waiters working at Lake Balaton (Hungary) during the holiday season, "The Germans are back" (behaving like Aussie bogans in Bali)

Agreed. The initial comments about certain behaviours on board had some merit, however ascribing them to particular ethnicities is ignorant, racist and, to me, more offensive than pax placing their feet on bulkheads. Regardless, all generalisations are self fulfilling.

[Mod Hat]

I was thinking so as well...don't forget the "Report Post" is a good way to sort these out. :)
