Red E-deal

Just wanted to know if the Red E-deal is carry on baggage only? and apart from ridiculous fees if you ever have to change anything how is it any different from the other economy fare?

Full checked-in luggage, on-board catering (as everyone else in WHY) and earns normal miles and SC's with QFF (other programs may vary).

Difference is they can only be booked through QF website, not through TA's or other airlines.

That IS the normal economy fare. The other stupid fares displayed, double, triple or ten times the going rate, these are just for show trying to make the normal fare look low.

And the change fee isn't too bad compared with, say, USA airlines who routinely charge $150 change fee.

Are your sure anbout only being able to book it through the site? I Recently booked an itinery through a TA on EK to Europe and Qantas is the interline to MEL and the extra fare cost from ADL instead of just from MEL added up to pretty much what it would have cost as a Red-e-Deal fare.

Agreed. Granted that it was over 2 years ago but I often flew AKL-WLG-AKL on 'O' class tickets issued by a travel agent. That 'O' class fare was always the same cost as the Red-e-Deal on QF's website. Also whenever I booked directly with QF on a Red-e-Deal I always got 'O' class.

Have just done a dummy booking AKL-SYD-AKL (out 3/3 in 13/3) on QF.co.nz and Expedia.co.nz and the Sale fare (which is even cheaper than the Red-e-Deal fare) is available on both websites for the same price right down to the last cent.

So it looks like nothing has changed and that indeed travel agents still have access to the cheaper QF fares.

thadocta -- Can you cite an example of which QF sale fares are not available on which routes? I admit I have only looked at domestic and trans-tasman fares so it is possible I am missing some other market where QF does hold back sale/red-e-deal inventory from travel agents.

IIRC I have booked a red-e deal and it came in E class.

Travel agents can access the Red-E-Deal fares, as long as they are being sold in Australia or New Zealand.

However when the point of sale is non-AU/NZ they are not available, which significantly bumps prices for people booking Australian domestic flights as a part of an inbound international itinerary.

Domestic red e-deals can be in N, O, Q & E classes.

Nothing ridiculous about this: an AUD 60 change fee (on Australian domestics) is a very generous condition in exchange for the dirt cheap fares that you can get when you buy red e-deals. If you don't like the change fee, then buy a ticket that has more flexibility built into it from the start.

And will likely cost more than $60 extra.
