Oneworld emerald: Lounge access upon 'arrival' ?
Hi there,
I am gold with BA (oneworld emerald) and have two flights (separate tickets both in Y) coming up with a transfer in Sydney - one on QF one on JQ: - arriving on QF into SYD domestically in the morning - going to the city - departing on JQ domestically in the later afternoon Now would the QF boarding pass from the morning arrival and my OW status help me to get access to the QF lounge before the flight in the afternoon ? Cheers TheAirman |
You are not eligible as JQ is not a Oneworld airline. The rules specify that lounge access based on Oneworld status applies when departing on a Oneworld airline. Now a QF codeshare on JQ would qualify, but not JQ itself. Annoying, but QF has made the commercial decision to make Jetconnect and QantasLink OW affiliates, but keep JQ out of OW.
In any case JQ uses T2 at SYD and QF domestic is in T3 (international in T1, but only domestic allows airside access), so not that convenient. |
there is a Qantas Club in T2 but it is pretty old and average - you're not missing much.
The alternative would be - find an Australian address you can use and apply for a Virign Australia status match and anytime access. |

But you're saying that I need to have a QF ex-SYD flight to actually get into the lounge, just the sameday QF boarding pass wouldn't do. |
Yes, them is the rules. QF does not operate any arrivals lounges, even BA only has a handful, and even if it did, OW does not have an arrivals lounge access as a benefit (it is up to the policy of the individual airline -- BA at LHR allowed arrival lounge status access only to BA and QF, not the rest of OW, wonder if that has changed now with the BA/IB/AA tieup?).

No go I'm afraid - no arrivals lounge.
However, if you have purchased a jetfare ticket you might be in - all other tickets are a lower class and have zero reciprocal rights with QF or OW. It use to be the case that if you were platinum (ow emerald) you could access the lounge at anytime - but they ditched that little perk. I'd still give it a go and plead ignorance & see what happens, the ladies are nice and you might just crack it. Although I will concur with previous comments that the lounge is old but I still like to go there. Jetstar - make sure you comply with the OB luggage requirements - they can be a little tough sometimes. Don't expect a clean plane & I hope it's a short flight!! |
Plenty of evidence that QF allows QP access for OW elites when departing on JQ. You won't get it in MEL, for example (they make BA lounge dragons look extremely flexible) but you will probably (not definitely, but probably) get it in SYD at T2.

Ended up in the DJ lounge - had totally forgotten about my status there and that you don't even have to have a flight to get access. ^

maybe my memory is failing me (and it probably is), but I thought QF had relented slightly on removing any time access for OW Emerald and allow same day access specifically for those arriving on QF. Or is this only for QF Plats?

So you have Velocity Gold/Platinum status?
Problem is - as an usually Europe based traveller - I am not used to the 'club concept' with anytime access, but more of a 'lounge concept', where you get only access if you fly with the airline or its partners. |
