'New Qantas' SC on MEL-HKG, booked via expedia

Hey everyone,

I'm booked on QF 29 MEL-HKG on 21Feb12. I made the booking through expedia because it allowed me to get a through fare to PNH on the one ticket for a few hundred $ less than any other booking means.

I received an email from QF today stating that there would be changes to my flight, but htat I should contact my travel agent (expedia) after 23 August to find out what they are. The email also stated that the travel agent would rebook me onto other flights, which I found quite confusing - I thought this would be QF's issue.

First, does anyone know what the change is likely to be? And second, does anyone have experience with schedule changes on bookings with expedia?

Cheers,
afterDawn

Actually, I believe IATA rules are that until journey commences T/A changes the ticket, and not the airline. Airline can do this only in the flight interruption situations (like passenger is already at the airport and flight gets cancelled).

Your TA has control of your ticket.
Have you looked at the QF web site?
QF29 for 21 Feb is still for sale (no business class being offered)
QF29 23:55 Melbourne 05:50 Hong Kong

MEL-HKG will probaly be effected by the QF changes just announced

The timing of the flight may be set to change. So you would no longer connect to your other flight.

All will be revealed shortly (I assume!)

Here's hoping! I've managed to figure out that the affected flight is actually my HKG-MEL flight in late may 2012. I've got a 4hr layover in HKG at this stage so unless the flight is significantly retimed earlier I'll be fine, which is a relief!

If I had booked this flight solely with QF I'd be infinitely more relaxed as contacting them and organising recovery options is fairly straightforward. But expedia bookings are a whole new world for me, and the plethora of 'scammed by expedia' stories online had me very worried. Lets hope its a simple schedule change.

Mystery solved!

Hey all,

The mystery solved itself today with an email from Expedia, containing the following info:

Hong Kong to Melbourne
Flight Change Details
Monday, 21/05/2012
Qantas Airways Flight Number: QF30
From: (HKG) Hong Kong, Hong Kong Depart: 18:55
To: (MEL) Melbourne MEL VI, Australia Arrive: 05:55 07:10 (change) +1 day
Status: CONFIRMED Class: Economy
Aircraft: Airbus A330 Jet Seats:
It seems that QF30 has been changed to an A330 and will now take an extra 1 hour 20 minutes to make the journey from HKG. Presumably this reflects a change to the QF30 schedule out of LHR.

Thanks for your advice all :-)

Which means that, even with BA picking up the service between HKG and LHR, QF now offer no F or W on this route to integrate with. A stronger Qantas, indeed!
