Q: Qantas Club member reaching Gold

Q: Qantas Club member reaching Gold
Hi all,

What happens if you have paid for Qantas club membership for the year and then you reach QFF Gold (that give you free QC membership) during the year?

I assume Qantas wont refund anything?

The QC membership goes on hold, until you fall back to Silver.

Like OP ,I am in the same situation. Do you need to call QF & check or just take it "as read" that it will be on hold-hopefully for a long time!

As posted, your QP membership gets suspended.

Should your status in the future ever not be eligible for complimentary lounge access then your QP membership would be reactivated.

FWIW, in 1996 I achieved top level (as it was then) Gold status and my three months or so QP membership was suspended. Since then I have always been able to maintain a status level that includes complimentary lounge access. About two years ago I achieved Qantas Life time Gold status and unless Qantas decide to remove the benefit of complimentary lounge access for Gold members, I'll never see that three months again.

Similarly, I transferred the bulk of my earning from QF to BA, and the rest once I'd reached QF LTS. As a BA Gold or Silver (OWE or OWS), I think I get pretty much everything I'd get from my QP membership, so I had to ... just let go, and allow the remaining period to run off without any utility.

In many ways, I'm glad I didn't talk myself into buying lifetime QP membership.

...and the next enhancement to the QF FF program will see extra benefits to all WPs which include personal escort to the plane, guaranteed award availability with no exceptions and cheerful and consistent cabin service.

I can only comment that you appear to be in a class of one! Out of curiousity, when did this occur, and for how long had your QC membership been on hold?

This happened shortly after QF introduced LT Gold, perhaps 6 months after. My membership had already been on hold for 5 years.

That would be early 2002; clearly they have "forgotten" about this with the passing of time!
