Yelling into mobile phones

Currently in the AKL Flounge. One guy is having a nice long - and loud chat into his phone. You can hear him in the entrance foyer. I assume he doesn't mind everyone hearing his office secrets ;)

How on earth do you suggest these guys keep it down without being excessively rude?

When the same thing was happening to me - in the QF lounge in HGK - I walked over to the person and suggested they speak louder - because the people right at the back of lounge could hear but not make out the conversation. Did the trick :D

Just be moderately rude. :D

You could always take notes and post the output of the conversation here. Just don't record it, as that would be an illegal wire tap in most countries. :-)

Some people have to yell, because it is a long distance call...

If glaring at them doesn't work (more often than not, it doesn't) I would ask the lounge dragons to address it. Frankly, it offends me when people insist on inflicting their conversations on others, whether on Skype in the lounge, or worse, when they are sitting beside you on board.

My views on the subject are best summed-up by Dom Jolly :D...

Join in the conversation. Respond to the questions he's asking while on the phone. Works every time.

Move over next to them, get out a pad and a pen, and start making notes.

Use one of the techniques from the 10 million mile traveller.

"The guy on the phone talking really loud. Just to ramble on? For God's sake. ... And everybody's irritated.

I said, 'Dude, next time you force us all to be in your sales meeting, at least buy doughnuts for everybody.'

I saw someone doing it on a Bus some time ago and they were not only yelling but being rude abusive and downright bogan/feral about it and every second word was swearing amongst other things. It was on the connecting bus that I finished the trip up to the other side of town that started it's trip in the southern suburbs I saw it all and it was awful. It was almost enough to send me back to taken the car everywhere the following day.

In the AKL F lounge last week there was a very loud group sat just behind us (we were playing Trivial Pursuit on the iPad pretty much in silence) and I progressively made louder comments about the rudeness of talking loudly and it went quiet...

Had one loud chap in fairly empty Cairns QP last week exhorting his co-travellers down stairs that they should join him in the QP as he was WP. (Never has this term become more apparent:mad:)
Thankfully they obviously were aware of him and didn't join up.
