QF miles flying MU?
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience claiming China Eastern frequent flyer points with qantas?
According to the website: "When flying on eligible China Eastern fares and flights with a MU flight number, you can: earn points, and earn a Cabin bonus. " Note:
So is this saying that on particular flights even with an MU prefix, that QFF members can earn points? The part about codeshare flights confuses me a little. Could someone a bit more experienced in this matter clarify it for me? I would be eternally grateful !! Any light shed would be great! |
Yes, although MU is now a Skyteam member, MU credits to certain OneWorld programs, QFF http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/.../china-eastern and Cathay Pacific's Asia Miles among them http://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/earn/...000ad21c39RCRD
The codeshare clause only affects flights sold by MU but flown on "other metal" (i.e. a non-MU plane) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_E...are_agreements . If a MU flight on MU metal or QF metal then you should get credited. Note that cross-crediting other airlines' programs is always iffy, cos ground staff don't know what they're doing. There have been horror stories about Air China crediting one of its own members with similar name instead of the Asia Miles of the passenger travelling for instance http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...ver-again.html . If the MU ground staff can manage it and have the right FFP number keyed into the boarding pass, fine; but if not, leave blank and do a missing mile claim (claim needs to be sent to the Frequent Flyer Service Centre in Melbourne tho http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/...ts/claimPoints) |
Just because you can earn points doesn't mean you can redeem award flights :(.

So if travelling on a MU flight on MU/QF metal, it might just be easier to claim with QF post-travel? Cheers for the information - very helpful! |
