Has anyone bumped out of J due to A380 issues???

Qantas is currently estimating several more weeks before the A380s return to service. I was wondering with the 747 subs for the A380 and the smaller J class has anyone be kicked out of J? If so how did you find out and how did they handle it? Anyone known what the priority would be for selecting who stays and who has to go if they have to condense a full J A380 pax load into a 747?

I would imagine that QF would manage it by not allowing upgrades and if that doesn't work, then moving pax onto other services. The loss of revenue by invol downgrading (ie compensation) would be undesirable - obviously.

Considering that most days QF has 4 flights a day to LAX plus one to SFO (on most days) from Australia and the difference between a pacific config 744 and an A380 is 16 seats, that is only 32 seats a day that need to be found on the BNE service, QF107/108 & SFO flights given a full J load and full F load on the 2 A380 flights (on days the A380 operates).

There is also the AKL flight as well which would probably have a few spare J seats most days as why anyone would take a 332 with slanty seats out of AKL when they could take a flat bed certified to be flat for take off and landing on NZ is beyond me.

LHR flights are easier due to being able to rebook PAX onto BA flights.

Add in an embargo on non essential staff travel on A380 destinations and I am sure QF is managing to get everyone where they need to go in their original class of travel (except for those going to HKG from SYD in F).

Yes I was back on the Fri after it happened. My post about it is here.

I have since flown back to the US, and while getting a J seat on the Sun was touch-and-go with waitlists on 3 flights, my trip changed and I flew Mon instead without any particular issue getting seats.

Actually the difference between a 747 and A380 is only 6 seats.

The 747 pacific configuration has 66 seats
The A380 has 72 seats

Initially I imagine there would of been a few downgrades, but their shouldn't be very many at all now.

I think the initial issues were not so much to do with the number of J seats, but were to do with the total number of available seat.

A Pacific configuration 4 class B744 has 307 sellable seats in total. The A388 has 450 with the loss of two A388's that's nearly 300 seats each way a day that are no longer available.

The juggling of that would be mindblowing.

Rescheduling

I have not been bumped, but have been moved to a 747. Has anyone had any luck getting Qantas to let them reschedule to next year so they can fly on the A380?

747-400 Pacific configurations

With all this talk of Pacific configurations, are we sure all the replacement 747s are indeed 'Pacific' configurations? I thought I had read recently on FT that the QF73/74 SYD-SFO-SYD aeroplanes were not necessarily 'Pacific' configurations especially considering they are not selling First and FTers had reported sometimes have Mark I Skybeds in J.

Slightly OT:
Are both the 747-400s involved in the JNB-SYD & SYD-EZE return to take-off cities back in service ?

Both incidents involved VH-OEI. This arrived in SYD on the delayed QF64 on 18/11 and departed back to JNB as QF63 on 19/11.

As per http://www.theqantassource/qijettracker.html the SYD-LAX route has seen regular ops by 2 & 3 Class 744s since the A380 grounding with VH-OJI working this route exclusively since 7th November.

Seems like the BKK-SYD flight has been downgraded to a 747 with no First Class. Originally booked in First, now downgraded to Business Class, is there any compensation I can get?
Should mention that its an award ticket from AA.

It's such a bugger being downgraded but with such a refund I think I could stomach it. Just hope I don't don't get too much of the run arounds/blame games from one airline to the other...

Red face

It does say that it for for tickets issued in Australia. I am in the same boat for HK to Syd , booked with AA miles.
AA person in UK suggested sending something to their customer service in US to get a point refund.
Don't like our chances either way.

Adding insult to injury is that my AA confirmation says I have seats 7E and F , which supposedly doesn't exist on the CX wet lease A333....
QF FF desk yesterday assured me that they aren't regional style biz seats.

I reckon getting a points refund shouldn't be too hard, but a few bucks would do a lot better job in making the downgrade more acceptable. There's a reason I booked F, I want the F seat, not the miles...

Guess some things are just out of our hands. And we don't want anyone dropping out of the skies, even if its while sitting in First Class...
