Lounges moving to an Apple environment

Qantas today announced a new Apple technology offering in Qantas Clubs across Australia.

The new development will mean a new range of Apple technology including the latest generation Macs implemented across all Australian Qantas lounges, moving the lounges to an all Apple environment.

Good to see the old clunkers getting replaced...

Wow. QF really seems to be ahead of the pack! I just hope the connection speeds can be improved.

Considering some other recent "improvements" in Qantas offerrings, I would not be surprised if they put coin machines on these Apple Macs and charged for use :D

From memory the upgraded lounges in Cairns and Perth have already changed over - with the large screens but no coin requirements as yet!!.

I also remember reading somewhere that Jetstar was planning on rolling out iPads across its aircrafts and haveing them available for hire across its flights. Perhaps they will also roll out iPads at Qantas Lounges!?

Can confirm that they are in PER. Look good. Connection speed is certainly no faster however.

Yep, that is what they said when the IPads were first released. The latest is they will be inplace for Christmas 2010.

'Jetstar's domestic passengers can expect to be using iPads for in-flight entertainment in time for Christmas'. http://www.zdnet.com.au/jetstar-aims...nt%3Dfirefox-a

Depends how one defines "ahead".

If you "ahead of the pack" you are only a slip away from being bitten in the @r5e! :p

That therefore explains the very conservative attitude that has prevailed for decades on new products.

Obviously you are in denial. Some light reading during those reflective moments late at night might help.

A suggested website to start with would be http://www.apple.com/au/

Given time, even the non believers can be brought over from the dark side

I am not a non believer.

In fact I don't mind the Macs; they look good - they've been in the lounges for quite some time.

What's annoying me is the complete removal of the Windows devices; hence the removal of choice.

At least it'll reduce waiting times.

I should imagine these macs will be more reliable thus giving more uptime and more use for the customers.

I come from an IT background and at work we have 1200 computers. The Macs are noticeably more reliable than the PC / Windows setup.

Qantas would not be interested in choice for FFs. They would be more interested in what is best for Qantas.

I suspect they have a developing arrangement with Apple around supplying Apple products to the lounges and initially IPads throughout the JetStar fleet. Perhaps IPhones and Apple products throughout the Qantas group generally at the senior/executive group??

I agree with an earlier comment that you will have less downtime/maintenance problems with Apple hardware.

Regards

I am from IT environment too and I would strongly argue this point. Good, tier 1 branded PCs are as reliable as MACs and definitelly cheaper...
