An important change to program car hire partners
We are delighted to announce that from 19 November 2010, Avis and Budget will become our exclusive car rental program partners. This will allow us to work more closely with Avis and Budget to bring you regular special offers and more! Right now, for a limited time, you can earn 1,000 extra points on Avis and Budget bookings of three days or more.# This means that from 19 November 2010, Thrifty and Hertz will no longer be Qantas Frequent Flyer program partners. Therefore, you can only earn points on car rentals with Hertz and Thrifty that are completed by 18 November 2010. For information on how this affects rentals with Hertz or Thrifty, please contact Hertz or Thrifty. Very disappointing. I wonder when Hertz will become the exclusive car rental partner of Velocity. |
I am not concerned.
I have always had to chase my points on overseas Hertz rentals. My last in June this year in Las Vegas. I was charged an arm & a leg for a one day rental and service at Paris desk was appalling |
Hertz seems consistently more expensive than Avis in the places where I have rented.

It a bit of a pain. The CDP I am eligible to use with Thrifty gives a FCAR for $42 base (~$48 nett) per day. I have been getting 143 QFF points on that for years. (At least I didn't have to chase Thrifty)
Oh Well, I can still earn Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars at http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/theme...apd_symbol.gif2.50 per day's rental. |
A pity about Hertz. Its website is much more transparent than any of its competitors, so I am much more comfortable booking Hertz. Oddly, for UK residents Hertz offers very good prices, even for pay on return bookings.

This is really disappointing as Avis is much more expensive than Hertz for my US trip in Feb. Off to change my FF number now........

I guess it is time to move over to Avis. |
Orac (better choice than Slave) - I used to be a Hertz devotee, but churned to Avis years ago. My employer's long-standing corporate account is with Avis and I've always found excellent discounts for both work and personal use via the Avis forum here on FT. Points-wise, no problem ever with Avis posting, even international rentals (and with 9 days picked up in SFO and returned in PHX last time, I payed attention!) have posted quickly.
