Re-checking bags at SYD

I'm transiting in SYD from QF-QF (both international) and I would like to check a bag for the departing flight (one that I previously had as carryon).

Is there a QF transit desk where you can check your bag?

Note, these are two separate QF bookings.

I can't recall any transit desk where you can check a bag. I suspect you will have to clear customs and get it checked in at the regular check-in desks.

There are also "Gate Check" options, where a gate agent decides your bag needs to be checked luggage. Not sure if you can ask them or not...

Could you explain why you think you need to get a bag checked in? Liquids? Perhaps better advice can be given if you let people know why.

I want to head into SYD for a couple of hours and don't want to take bag, nor waste time finding "left luggage" office.

There is a left luggage office within easy walk from arrivals, which will store your bag for $A10 for up to 6 hours.

That seems like the best option... but sometimes more complicated solutions can be easier....

If you are taking the train into SYD city, you have to walk past the left baggage office before you get to the train station entrance (once you have cleared Customs and are "land side").

Of course it might be just as easy to go up to the Departures level and check the bag in up there.

If you are only doing "a couple of hours" (2 ?), that might be cutting it a bit fine.

If you are going to clear immigration etc anyway, then it should be fairly painless to go upstairs to departures and check the bag in before heading off; to get there from exit A-B , you will turn rightand head towards McDonalds to get to elevators/escalators to the departures level. you will go past a left luggage location on the arrivals level so you can leave it there if desired, but is free just to check it in

As you come out of Arrivals, don't you turn RIGHT towards McDonalds, and not left?

Correct. Perhaps the left remark was a mix up with the joy of turning left? :D

To be even more pedantic, you either walk straight ahead or do a U turn - depending on which ramp you take.
