QFF Login Down

Anyone have any idea why the QFF portal would be closed for access from 15MAY10 6pm to 16MAY10 4am? Should we be expecting big changes?

I tried logging in this morning and my PC browser directed me to a mobile/iPhone version of the QFF portal.

Major network/server upgrades? Some of their hardware / infrastructure is broken and needs to be fixed?

They are about to start a massive project to move the entire Frequent Flyer database into new software (see http://www.theaustralian.com.au/aust...-1225850044088 ), so expect more outages over the next 18 months.

BTW, this is very poor from Qantas - they should have had notification on the website of the outage. If it's an emergency outage because something is broken - fair enough... but not if it's planned.

Agree, it's a bit ordinary if it is a planned outage not to have notified users.

The outage was due to a mainframe hardware upgrade and certainly was planned.

Qantas did advise those who had interfacing IT systems in order for appropriate steps to be taken.

As for advising FFers of this, there 7+M QFFers. With an outage for < 9 hours on a Saturday evening Oz time I suspect they considered precious few would be affected.

So they couldn't put a banner up (as they currently have for Thailand issues?)

Or sent an email out to all FF'ers (They do this frequently enough for fairly useless reasons).

Not acceptable Qantas. 9 hours on a Saturday night in Australia is various different times in other countries.

Alas I weep for thee!

Interestingly I just logged on to the "Manage Your Booking" site through my iPhone and was redirected to the PC site. Methinks there are still some technical issues being sorted out.

I wasn't so worried about not being informed etc., but I think Aus_Mal is right. How many emails do we get about silly promotions/competitions or reassuring letters from the CEO?!

I've just noticed the dropdown listing on the top-right of the QF homepage that allows you to "Select your region" on mouseover. Is that new since this outage? I hope it hasn't been there for ages and I've just never noticed it before...but I think it is new since I started a thread about "Pet hates on the QF website", where the hassle of changing from one location homepage to another was one of the first points made, so maybe some in QF IT noticed that?

It's been there for a while.

it seems the 4 day window to improve your seat allocation has disappeared with the latest 'upgrade'...

Himeno May 16, 2010 7:26 am

I'm now able to make seat selections for JAL domestic flights (HND-ITM and ITM-NRT).

I get exactly zero

Is that because you've opted out of emailed communications, or have changed your email address since you last updated your profile?

Well that's nice for you, but I get plenty.

Last week it was 3: one survey, one reminder about Classic Awards and the Program Newsletter.

I have opted out of all mail, not just email

All you need to do is log in and untick the "please spam me" boxes and phone QFF and direct them to also not send any unsolicited mail by normal mail and then the mail from QFF drops to close to zero
