JQ Baggage Interlining for $?

I'm hoping an expert will be able to explain to me why it is that JQ, who otherwise aren't bad at selling us things we like for extra $ (be it window/aisle seating, or up front seating, or exit row seating, or lounge access at OOL and in NZ etc) can't interline our baggage for extra $.

I actually quite like flying with JQ - I usually pay for 1A or 1C (I like being front row with big legroom) - but I *HATE* the fact they won't interline baggage and it loses them plenty of my business (and surely many others).

Why can't JQ interline bags for extra $?

Surely there'd be a BIG market for it?

Interlining is a lot of work, is time critical and seems to be the first thing that LCCs drop. Even pre-LCC carriers that are almost legacy, such as Southwest airlines in the US, don't interline after 20 years (and lots of requests for it). Every else changes, but interlining (or not) does not.

Jetstar said it would provide seamless booking and ticketing, providing customers and the travel industry with more options to include a Jetstar flight into itineraries.
I did not see discussion on the issue of baggage but I guess experience is different.

Actually JQ almost embraces interlining (for LCC standards this is). They have 12 agreements at the moment (up from 9 agreements last year). Bruce Buchanan stated that they want to do a lot more of those agreements as QF gets a significant (he said double digit million) revenue from JQ domestic flights booked in connection with other airlines flight flights into Australia.

Yes, I don't mean interlining in the sense of selling combined itineraries etc - I mean transferring bags between their own flights, and between their flights and other airlines, including QF.

I agree hence my post above questioning the interlining that did not specifically mention baggage transfers.

But the two go together. Interlining between JQ and other airlines includes luggage transfer AFAIK. Someone correct me if that is not the case. Not JQ to JQ is an entirely different matter.

Once upon a time interlining used to have a crisp meaning, which included baggage transfer between airlines. Now there is airline new speak, which QF and JQ have adopted for interlining. For example, JQ has an interline agreement with QF -- presumably this is as good or better than it's interline agreements with AC and other airlines. Now, qantas.com says the following about how this interlining works for baggage (I would call this "interlining only for QF int to JQ int transfers"):

Question
Does Jetstar provide through check-in and baggage transfers to Qantas?

Answer
Jetstar domestic flights:

Jetstar does not transfer bags on domestic services. Connecting flights from Jetstar to Qantas can be booked, but you need to collect your baggage and check-in at the connecting airport. Ensure you leave enough time to connect between flights. Neither airline will take responsibility if you miss your connection.

Jetstar international flights:

If you are travelling on a Qantas domestic or international flight that connects with a Jetstar international flight you can through check yourself and your baggage for the entire trip.

On all other Jetstar flights you are responsible for collecting your baggage and re-checking in for your next flight. Through check-in and baggage transfers are not available from Jetstar domestic to Jetstar international flights.
