AA earning Class

I think I already know the answer,

Does W class on AA earn any Qantas points? I think not as it is not listed in the Qantas earning points chart next to AA but did a search and could not find it?

Any help greatly appreciated

Having googled W class it seems it earns zero on Qantas but earns 100 on AA, so perhaps I will go for AA platinum.

Does anyone know how this would work all on the one ticket could I credit the the first part below to AA

LHR-LAX-LHR sign up for an AA platinum challenger this would earn 10912 AA miles enough for AA platinum

then the PYUP fares in the middle to QF to requalify for platinum?

I know why have status on two but if I earn nothing on Qantas on the AA fare it seems logical to go for Platinum for $150USD more.

W is ineligable for accrual of QF points

If you are travelling to the USA on a W fare, you might well want to consider crediting to AA and undertaking the platinum challenge since W is a full qpoint earning class and 10,000 miles flown in W class will attain Platinum status

Thanks Dave

I must have been editing my post just as you posted. After searching google I got my answer, seems kind of strange that N which on AA only earns 50% would earn points/SC on Qantas. However W which earns 100% on AA earns nothing on Qantas.

So any benefits to being AA(Sapphire) and QF(Platinum)? Perhaps I should just give up the idea for a mileage run to retain platinum and just Earn AA(Sapphire). IMHO it is rather cheap looking at a W class fare LHR-LAX-LHR it is around 640 AUD plus the 170AUD for the platinum challenger seems like a very cheap way of getting Oneworld Sapphire, if only I did not already have it and more.

Getting OW sapphire will give you access to Exit Row seats when booking on AA plus 100% mileage bonus plus ability to upgrade AA domestic sectors and a much better redemption rate on awards

LHR-LAX-LHR will earn you approx 16368 miles ( 5456 outbound and 10912 inbound ) ; you will get ( I believe ) 1000 points for joining AAdvantage as an international member and so have about 17,368 miles. 17,500 is enough for a business class 1 way anywhere in Australia/NZ to anywhere else in Australia/NZ ; getting that remaining 132 points shouldn't be hard

yes have long been interested in crossing to AA, and I have come to the following conclusion. I have QF WP until June 2011.

Now on my calculations I could get AA platinum for about $810AUD which is going to get me into most lounges I need fair enough I do like the BA T5 first class lounge but I can live without it. At that rate QF LTG would take 34 years to be cost effective assuming a $2 dollar a status credit cost which is being generous to Qantas LTG.

Therefore for $100 dollars more than the Qantas club membership I would get to choose seats on AA,BA for free and also be able to take a guest into the lounge which I would have to pay more for if just a Qantas club member. Now the only downside is the lack of lounge access in the USA.

Seems like come 2011 I might be crossing to AA, for the time been although I have always been tempted by a mileage run and had a nice one planned out for about $2k AUD for about 940 status credits I might just live without first class lounge access come 2011.

Depends on whether you are going to LA just for points or whether the FF miles are an outcome of travel you are doing. If the latter than it is costing USD150 to get AA Platinum since the ticket cost would exist anyway

it depends on how many solely North American trips you would be doing on AA. As an AA Platinum you'd still get AA lounge access on the intercontinental trips like LAX-LHR.
