Qantas May Remove Two-Thirds of First Class Seats, Review Says

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Qantas Airways Ltd. plans to remove two-thirds of its first-class seating as part of a A$400 million ($354 million) program to reconfigure its long-haul fleet, the Australian Financial Review reported, citing plans obtained by the newspaper.

The airline will have 12 aircraft with first-class seating, down from 30, the newspaper said. The plan was signed off by the board last year, it said, without saying where it got the information.

First class seats will only be available between Sydney and Los Angeles or London via Singapore under the plan, the Review said. The number of economy seats may increase 20 percent, the newspaper reported. Qantas is Australia’s biggest airline.

380s with F, the 744s will roll Biz up into zone A F class seating until they all fall apart (the seats, not the aircraft).

Also to clarify that it will obviously be the 180-degree flat SkyBeds which will feature on their B744s.

That'd be a nice innovation!

Unless they decide to make 11/12, 107/108 and 93/94 A380 operated to LAX and 15/16 or 25/26 continue on to JFK with either a two-class 744 or an A330. (Have heard rumours of the latter, that 25/26 will become a permanent A330 operating AKL-LAX-JFK).

Presumably BA will continue to use it as a shared facility.

Its apparently a $450mil intl product revamp which will apparently see:

All B744s in a 3 class config (J,Y+,and Y) featuring the A380 style seats and IFE.

Apparently the Intl A333 and A332 fleet will also recieve the A380 Y class seats and the new A380 style IFE.

Full details to be announced in the next few weeks.

Anyone know more?

I am curious why the A330 do not have Y+ as I thought that was a growth market for QF.

Once you put turn an A330 into a 3 class, you're significantly cutting the number of BIS miles that are sellable. Are there even any carriers out there operating an A330-200 as a 3 class airline?

Alan Joyce this morning talking amongst other things about the potential seat reconfiguration:

Interesting that when talking about group profitability, he first mentions Jetstar and QFF.
