JL - TYO/OKA/FUK/NGO-BOS - 212350 JPY / $1393 r/t - Premium Economy

Yesterday Japan Airlines filed new fares between Japan and the United States in premium economy. Fortunately the fares are E fares and not P fares, so they earn 100% plus a 25% cabin bonus crediting to American Airlines (unfortunately they aren't R fares).

The best deal based on cost per mile is Okinawa (OKA) to Boston (BOS) - 212350 JPY or $1393 USD roundtrip in premium economy. Unfortunately there's a change or airport. If you want to avoid a change of airport the best deal is Nagoya (NGO) to Boston (BOS) via NRT for 212,870 JPY or $1397 USD roundtrip in premium economy.

Ticket needs to be issued by April 9, 2024. Travel April 2 to May 31, 2024. Depart Tuesday through Friday and return Sunday through Thursday. Minimum stay is 5 days. No stopovers permitted.

OKA-HND/NRT-BOS-NRT/HND-OKA
15296 Miles Roundtrip / $1393 USD
9.1058 cents USD per Mile Flown

Crediting to Alaska
11286 Elite Qualifying / Redeemable Miles (Cost per EQM - 12.3427 cents USD)

Crediting to American
18637 Loyalty Points / Redeemable Miles (Cost per LP - 7.4744 cents USD)

Crediting to British Airways
240 Tier Points (Cost per TP - $5.80 USD / 4.62 GBP)

Crediting to Iberia
1180 Elite Points (Cost per Point - $1.18 USD / 1.10 EUR)

Crediting to Qantas
220 Status Credits / 18700 QF Points (Cost per Credit - $6.33 USD / 9.71 AUD)

Google Flights
*JetStar operates flights from OKA to NRT, but those are not oneworld operated flights and will not credit to most oneworld airline mileage programs.

If you're looking for even more loyalty points, SYD-CDG is $1899 roundtrip in premium economy and an R fare so it'll earn a 50% cabin bonus.

This is quite sexy, thanks for posting it. The dates don't work but often these do renew.

Though I think we're going to have to book AA codes for SWUs. C'est la vie, still nice fare for those who can use it.

A little confused here, you mean to use AA SWU on JL operated flights?

Thank you! Yeah, loyalty points at 7.5 cents each is fantastic! Hopefully this renews! As you said, they usually do.

I know upgrading with SWU's is wishful thinking, but for anybody else, if you're going to use systemwide upgrades I think the flights would have to be marketed and operated by AA or BA, unless there was a recent rule change I missed. You can book these with AA flight numbers, but you'll earn loyalty points based on spend (5 LP's per dollar for base earning).

No, on AA operated flights, they have a JV and often post the same fare on the same route. That wasn't clear the way I phrased it.

You can upgrade with JL miles which you can transfer from Marriott. I think they typically go on waitlist until just before departure so wouldn't risk transferring them there unless you can confirm it at the time.

Appears that E fares don't qualify for upgrades, only W and R:

You should be able to bid to upgrade. The only restriction seems to be tour / group fares, which this is not.

Unfortunately the cheapest dates from South Korea are only sold by AA. For the JAL issued tickets, the economy segments book into H, not Y, so you won't earn as many points / miles because it's a lower fare code.

Cost per Mile flying from South Korea - 11.2813 cents USD

Thanks! Sorry, I thought you were talking about Boston as a final destination. Yes, these fares cover the entire US. You can fly Japan to SFO for the same $13XX price as Boston. You won't earn as many miles, but it's still a great deal compared to the cost a few days ago! I didn't focus on SFO because you'll earn fewer miles as the flight is shorter, but if you're looking to head to the west coast of the US, that has become more affordable and is a great deal too.

Just for comparison to the figures in the first post...

GMP-HND-SFO-HND-GMP
11756 Miles Flown / $1332 Roundtrip
11.3304 cents per Mile Flown

Crediting to Alaska
8229 Elite Qualifying / Redeemable Miles (Cost per EQM - 16.1867 cents USD, which is pretty terrible so don't choose this option for a mileage run)

Crediting to American
13889 Loyalty Points / Redeemable Miles (Cost per LP - 9.5903 cents USD - still fantastic)

Crediting to British Airways
200 Tier Points (Cost per TP - $6.66 USD / 5.28 GBP)

Crediting to Iberia
890 Elite Points (Cost per Point - $1.50 USD / 1.38 EUR)

I think that's the case with JAL. All Premium Eco bookings come with lounge access.
