A random example from GF: https://www.google.com/travel/flight...ASIDCgExKgIIAw
(playing with dates / length of stay could bring the price a bit further down)

A few points:
  • Only seems directly bookable with a single OTA (Globehunters), so it could be a result of creative filing. I haven't tried booking so can't confirm if it goes through
  • Similar fares seem to be available from other UK airports
  • All the short flights (BHX-FRA, BLR-CMB, CMB-BLR, FRA-BHX) are in economy
  • The above includes a double overnight layover on the outbound, I haven't played around to see if it is possible to avoid

Question is, is Sri Lanka worth visiting? Almost all of my travels have been to NA, never out east.

When I click through on the link it also says booking can be done by calling Lufthansa, at a 684 price.

I tried replicating through LH's website (same itinerary as from my GF link above), it is possible and bookable, however the price jumps to roughly 830.

As danielstrandby noted above, only the Germany - India sectors are in premium economy, the rest is economy only.

But I presume that the eco legs are in Y booking class (at least for the LH operated segments) and hence the mileage is OK.

That is correct, the economy flights are issued in Y for LH and in L for UL (the latter have no LH numbers).

You will need to do that for your specific itinerary. Here is my mock example:

1May24 Duration 18h5m
06:00BHX 08:30FRA LH959 A320 Y
11:00FRA 00:05+1MAA LH758 A343 N
03:10MAA 04:35CMB UL126 A320 L

11May24 Duration 26h20m
19:05CMB 22:40DEL UL197 A320 L
01:20DEL 06:05MUC LH763 A388 N
15:55MUC 16:55BHX LH2510 A319 Y

Total price: 831 (306 base fare + 220 surcharges + 305 taxes)

For mileage calculation:
BHX-FRA-MAA-CMB
CMB-DEL-MUC-BHX

For crediting options:
LH Y
LH N
UL L

Prices fine for me as one ticket in Amadeus, UK based agency. Nice find!
