Book the ticket directly with TK and far ahead. Then hope for a schedule change of 15min or more, which will allow you to change origin and/or destination (within same region). With TK schedule changes are frequent.

Hmm ... I was actually hoping to fly FCO-KUL in February 2023, and there actually is an OSL-SIN fare for €1,600 at the dates I am looking to travel. It won’t be the end of the world if I have to reposition at one end or the other, but to reposition at both would be annoying. Do you think there would be scope here to take advantage of a schedule change to alter the origin and/or destination, esp. origin, since KUL-SIN flights are a dime a dozen? I don't know if Norway and Italy would count as ’the same region’.

SIN and KUL is def. in the same region. Norway and Italy is not (based on the TK award chart) so I think you might face issues getting a change of origin to FCO approved. But as with most things, it will be up to the agent that you talk to.

Is this how they divide Europe or is there a different chart?

Correct. My bad. I didn't check and assumed Italy was in Europe 1. Both Norway and Italy is in Europe 2, i.e. the same TK region.

Well ... my travel dates for week-long trip to Malaysia in February next year are fairly fixed (give or take a day), and the dates this fare is available on are fairly limited, but it just so happens that this fare is available for my dates. Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn’t just go ahead and book OSL-SIN for €1,650 in the hopes that a schedule change will enable me to change the origin/destination to FCO-KUL? SIN is no problem, as flights are frequent, and I have miles on SIA, but return flights FCO-OSL would be over €400 in Y, which is not unaffordable, but reduces the attractiveness of this fare—and I would have to allow a much larger connection buffer, potentially even overnight (at additional cost), since they would be on separate tickets—although it would still be less that than the direct FCO-KUL at €2,400.

Would I be wrong in assuming that a significant schedule change would allow me to cancel the whole ticket for a refund? I suppose the cancellation fee is only €200. In any case, I have never travelled TK before, so any tip or traps I should be aware of before I book would be appreciated. Thank you.
