AY: ARN-DXB US$500 One-Way in J

Am currently looking for a positioning flight to get me close to MLE next March (I'll be in CH). Haven't found anything yet, but stumbled on this one that someone might useful. Limited dates starting in December, with more in early 2023. Mostly Sundays to Tuesdays. Can get it even lower, but the cheapest price puts you on the 20hr+itinerary. Oddly enough selecting a return flight doesn't get you a nice price.

some dates in march as low as $437 one way. Looks like the HEL->DXB portion earns 300% miles and 200% qualifying miles on AS . Also available from HEL, OSL, and KEF.

Yeah the lower priced one is where your total trip time is 20hrs+...though I didn't look too hard.

I'm not an expert but I think I've seen that AY treats HEL-DXB as a Europe flight with very limited service in Business Class. Others will know better.
That said it's a great fare for that distance!

Yes, its like HEL-AGP which is European business class (distinguished from economy by an empty seat in middle of block of three on an A320-type plane). So the most space youll have to sleep is curling up sideways on the cushions of the three seats after raising the armrests, if you have nobody else sitting next to you. Not the most comfortable.

On a quick glance AY is only operating their A330 with the new AirLounge seat HEL-DXB this upcoming winter, so you'd get a lie-flat seat on this route. Definitely no EU-style recliners for most of the days. As for the service, it's a step up from normal EU service but a step down from AY long haul service. AY website says you should expect a 3-course meal and a full drink service, but no choice of entree though.

Here's a report of what the HEL-DXB service on the 330 is like. They apparently are offering a choice of entree.

I've flown this on the A350 (for $800 RT if I remember) and it was one of the worst flights I've ever had (I guess that's a good thing, meaning I've mostly chosen wisely otherwise ).
No menus, no meal choice, no greeting by the crew, the same meal for everyone ("vegan lasagna" or something ), no PDB. A very quick service and then the crew basically disappeared and wasn't seen again until landing. They even ran out of water bottles.
It felt like being on a train or bus. It was so bad that I just let the return flight expire and booked a new ticket.
In other words: You only get the seat. Unless something has changed, you may even want to consider bringing your own food.
Still, at that price, it's definitely tempting... Then again, LH/LX are selling tickets from Spain to Dubai for ~€1k RT. If you have to position to ARN anyway, I would definitely choose *A over AY.
In the past, LH/LX and AF/KL have also matched AY prices ex HEL. Could also be an option.

Just without bags and lounge for the cheapest price...

Light ticket type

  • Please note that your selected flight(s) do not include any checked baggage.
  • If you selected the Business Light ticket type, please note that lounge access is not included.

Would definitely be my choice - I do not fly LHG but all of my past trips to DXB have been on AF/KL in either premium economy or business and I would not hesitate to book them again, even if the price is somewhat higher.
