That was a while ago now, availability is definitely worse. I see multiple days at this price in April. There is more availability at the ~200 higher price, including in 2022, but not that much more.

I'm eyeing the following itinerary for $1500. Does anyone know how the United and Austrian products are on this segment? Also considering paying the 170k points for Qsuites but having a hard time justifying the points.

Flight Number: UA 923
Aircraft type: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Layover 3H 20M3 HOURS20 MINUTES
London LHR to Vienna VIE
Duration: 2h 25m2 hours25 minutes
Flight Number: OS 462
Aircraft type: Airbus A320
Operated By Austrian Airlines
Layover 1H 35M1 HOUR35 MINUTES
Vienna VIE to Male MLE
Duration: 8h 50m8 hours50 minutes
Flight Number: OS 45

UA: Good seat (though a bit tight on space on the 789), terrible food, inconsistent service.
OS: Mediocre to poor seat (Thompson Vantage), excellent service, phenomenal food (Do&Co).
QR is a much better overall product. 170k RT or OW?

What else are you going to use the points for? JL or CX F would be a better redemption, but I can't think of that many others.
The worst part of the paid itinerary is the double connection. LAX-LHR you'd mostly sleep and the OS food/service IMO mostly makes up for the crappy seat on an 8 hour flight.

Agree that 85k per pax per direction for LAX-MLE in QR J is a good deal, but IMO $1,500 is an even better deal, and OP can save the 170k points for a similar redemption in the future. As others have posted, the UA and OS products are respectable, but certainly a few steps below QR. Since this is a one-way LAX-MLE fare, could OP look into doing a QR J award on the return?

Sorry should have clarified. Contemplating if it's worth it to pay double (170k OW, 340k for two people OW) since saver dates are not available or is it worth me to just save the points and buy this segment in cash. Or perhaps an alternative? Return is QR J
