Cheap source of UA PQP's. With RDM's earned, valued at $0.015, it works out to about $0.40 per PQP.

I believe this books into class P. Earns no RDMs. Also you need to look at the PQP calculation for these fares on the UA website. The calculation of PQPs on ET fares is under footnote #1 saying that PQPs are earned on ET travel when booked as a UA codeshare (016- ticket code ... see quote below). I no longer chase UA status so I am not an authoritative source for exactly how PQPs are earned on all partners but my previous experience leads me to believe that only UAs JV partners are reliable sources of PQPs.

If your ticket was purchased directly from united.com, by calling the United Customer Contact Center (including a United specialty desk, such as United Groups, United Meetings or the Premier Priority Desk), from a United representative at the airport, or through a United ticket office, you'll earn miles based on the fare footnote 1,footnote 2 and your MileagePlus status. Please reference the "Ticket number starts with 016" section below.footnote 3

PQP for flights booked on 016 stock is based upon dollar amount (before taxes and fees) spent, while PQP on non-016 stocks is based upon a complicated formula with BIS miles, fare class and preferred/non preferred partners factor. The initial poster may be correct with the PQP calculation, but I have not double checked it.

Edit: There is a PQP calculator on this thread:
Earning Status (PQP) on non-016 Tickets and Partner Metal

If I look at the table included in the Wikipost for that thread, there seems to be a fare code below each cell in the row for a given airline. If this is correct, P fare classes are not listed in any sort of earnings (assuming a non 016- ticket).

You are not the first person here to jump on a great ET fare (and then find out you earn nothing)!!

Price is inline to good for South America to Europe travel, of course with a massive detour. ET almost always has these darn P fares which are worthless for miles.

Not sure how the service is these days, pre-Covid flying out of ADD was good with the Ethiopian spread....

We flew ET back from JNB that last June. The new terminal and lounges are a 180 degree change from the old ones. On board, ET was serving the same or similar champagne and wine that you could get on QR. No service off the cart for meals though (meaning no Ethiopian spread). Food and service was much better than any NA carrier.

Update:

Check out the thread in the other African and middle eastern airlines forum regarding a recent ET trip out of IAD. The poster reports the trolley and Ethiopian spread is back as of this past February.

The trolley service with Ethiopian spread is route dependent. ET's website will tell you the menu on your specific flight(s); you can check that to confirm whether you'll get trolley service.
