TUN to YYZ Air France/KLM from $1243 Business class
If you've got time to kill and would like to fly Air France or KLM business class across the Atlantic, if you start your trip in Tunisia, it drops the overall price considerably. (ie. Paris to Toronto is like $5000, but Tunis-Paris-Toronto is $1200).
Entry to Tunisia seems uncomplicated, requiring only proof of vaccination *or* negative covid test, and Canadians and Germans can visit without a visa: https://www.visatunisia.com/visa-exemption/. Americans and other European Nationals can get a visa for $26, although their online eVisa portal seems to not yet be operational so I think you'd have to mail in the form.

I have not followed ex-Tun as closely as ex-ALG but at least this past year the GDS historical search shows that this new set of ST fares (that were filed on Jan 11) are significantly below the fares that were in place since at least March 2021. I know the ex-ALG fares were mostly gutted in 2020, good to see some return for the region of these historically good values.
RT Base fare is now ~US$390+YQ etc (about $1230-40 as OP posted).
OW Base fare is now ~US$380+YQ etc (about US$786)
edited to add: ooh, a $75 stopover with no HIP check in each direction in AMS/PAR/MIL/ROM makes this a good deal for EU travel.

These are I fares, not used to seeing them as much on AF/KLM usually Z or O... so 40% of distance as MQDs!
Fare basis: IS00IBJB
Advance Purchase Period: Without restrictions
Maximum stay: A maximum stay of 12 months is applicable.
Minimum stay: Either a minimum stay of 3 day/days applies or the return flight begins on Sunday.

Thanks OP and others for the info!
I'm considering going to Paris so this may be an excellent add-on. Any idea of how many MQMs on Delta? Which is better to choose if I have an option - AF or KLM ? Would this be a good MR (even if I just did it one way on the return)?
Thanks!

This is not correct.
As written in the page "At the moment, citizens of 97 countries are able to spend up to 90 days in Tunisia visa-free. The list includes citizens of all European Union member states, as well as travelers from the U.S."
Canadians and Germans can stay up to four months instead of 90 days.
U!

Has anyone tried to do either a direct turn on the inbound aircraft or a short (couple of hours) connection @ TUN to start one of these fares? What is immigration/transit & lounge like? Am tempted by US$850 oneway TUN-IAH J.

Hard product: equally good
...for short haul: equally terrible
Food and drink: AF
...for short haul: AF
Lounges: AF
Little blue souvenir house: KL
The best for MR? Find a double connection, AMS-CDG or CDG-AMS, minimize the time in AMS.

Immigration can be a slog. Ive breezed through in a couple of minutes but Ive also had it take 1.5 hours or so, depends what other flights have just landed and where theyre from. I believe there is a sign for transfers you may be able to use for a quick turnaround but have never used it myself. The lounge is bad. Can get very crowded with nowhere to sit. Food and drinks are basic, there is wine and I believe beer available but dont recall anything harder. If you keep in mind the deal youre getting for the miles it makes it all worth it but the airport experience is not anything to get excited about.

Not sure if things have changed but I was able to transit in TUN once without clearing immigration.
When you walk out the plane into the terminal building, there is a transfer area almost immediately to your left once you exit the air bridge.
They were able to print me a boarding pass for my next flight, but it might only be for Tunisair flights. Don't know if they have the ability to print passes for other airlines.
Also, US citizens didnt need a visa when I was there but things might be different now.
