Also available from YYZ for around $300 more, up to early December. Looks to be a minimum stay of 5 days for this fare to apply.

So, will need a PCR test to fly there and another to fly back. Ok, I can get one in DC - but in MLE?

Your hotel in MLE should be able to arrange for a PCR test for you prior to your departure, at a cost.

Any hotel of note in Maldives is going to have PCR testing available and more likely a full plan + rate for what to do if you have to quarantine before returning to the US.

You don't need to a PCR test to return to the US. A rapid antigen is sufficient as long as it is administered or supervised.

You need a PCR test to fly EY, irrespective of the destination.

Wow, that is the first I have heard that! Are there other airlines that have that requirement?

UPDATE: EY has removed this requirement. Only need a test if final destination requires it.
