Haven't flown AM on the CDG-MEX leg, but have flown the 787-9 twice to/from GRU. AF on CDG-MEX was lůads better than AM. Nice food, very good wines, attentive and friendly service (the purser also came by the FB Plat members and took their meal choices first, as it was a full flight). Was very pleasantly surprised by AF.

KL dreamliner is always solid, especially the friendly Dutch service (although it might help that I am Dutch). Seat and F&B are in my opinion better on Air France though. But you get a Huisje!

I did the first leg MAD-MEX, on AM, and it was stellar, nice food, good crew and very good hard product to sleep. Also, if you manage to rest well, a night flight feels much shorter IMHO.
The flights MEX-GRU-MEX were OK.
Agree that AF crew/food/drinks are superior.
Another think I dislike is that daytime flights on AF/KLM to Mexico are terribly long, and if you fly via Paris, currently the transit time @ CDG are several hours.

I flew AF from CDG-MEX, KLM from MEX-AMS, and AM from MEX-GRU/MEX-MAD and back. I agree with 747 though if you want a "cheap" upgrade to La Premiere, it seems that the CDG-MEX route is one of the cheapest so let that influence your decision :P

What was the price of the "cheap" upgrade?

I'm trying to look for a similar level of XP (161xp) at this price range, are there other routes you could suggest? Or does repeating this route worth it then? I could only find business class ARN-BKK at 1240 euros..

Some experience from my trip: I was surprised when I arrived in Brazil. They only did a passport control. No check of vaccination or test.
In Mexico despite some horrible stories no problem at immigration. No queues and always went through within 5 minutes.
No lounge at S„o Paulo if you travel early. The Amex lounge only opens at 11am.

Did the MEX-GRU flights with aero Mexico. Itís a solid product they have there. What I didnít like though is that after the service (1,5h into the flight) they dim the windows even on day flights.
In addition they always wanted me to speak Spanish. Everytime they talked Spanish to me and every time I said I do not understand Spanish. I just gave up at some point .

taking this flight on March 02. Did AM check your covid test (antigen?) Before boarding? My flight leaves from BCN so I suppose we will need to present it somewhere rather than risk not having a test at all?

For me it was checked in BCN and MEX. But in Mex just because I only had 60 min connection and my private airport escort send me to the check in again 😅.

And maybe also interesting: On both AM (mex-gru-mex) flights Business was around 80% booked and economy 10%. So would have been very nice even in economy

I had to show Covid test to AF staff in BCN. I flew AF to CDG, then AM to MEX/GRU. I may have also shown test result to AM gate agent in MEX, but can't remember for sure.
I did have to show test results at GRU Immigration, which is different to what FaBSy just experienced, so ymmv.
I would not risk not having the test, just get it at BCN for 30 euro - its 100 feet from AF/Air Europa check in desks.

So there are multiple cheap I-fares filed for BCN-GRU.

Does anyone know about the difference between these fare bases? Aeromexico website priced the itinerary with a stopover in MEX for 1090€ - I had to book via call center as the website does not accept EMD vouchers issued in EUR. But the price from the call center agent was 1274€ - different fare base.

I was issued the 1120EUR base fare - somehow the stopover price for 90USD was not priced separately - and the INNN6GOI fare does only allow stopovers for a surcharge. Kind of strange that they could not issue the cheapest I-fare.

INNK6GOI 1040.00(EUR)
INNHA5OI 1080.00(EUR)
INNV6GOI 1087.00(EUR)
INNN6GOI 1120.00(EUR)
INNM6GOI 1187.00(EUR)
INNKA5OI 1250.00(EUR)
INNL6GOI 1286.00(EUR)
INNK05OI 1330.00(EUR)

Just wanted to share some experiences with this fare, as we had multiple tickets with different approaches in changing them.

In one scenario the EU leg got cancelled, and after AM insisted that we call Supersaver (several times) to open the ticket, AM rebooked the ticket on different dates with a departure from Amsterdam on our request, without fair difference.

For another ticket I wanted to change the dates myself. After calling multiple times with Supersaver (being on hold for 1/1.5 hours, being constantly redirected between agents with them hanging up regularly), finally found an agent who could change the dates, with almost no fare difference (18 euros). Maybe this info is useful if anyone wants to change the dates of their flights. I guess persistence and patience is key...

Did MAD-MEX-GRU last Sunday and GRU-MEX yesterday. Unfortunately, AM did last minute aircraft changes on the flight from MAD to MEX and the next flight from MEX to GRU. When I checked in online I had 10J on both flights, the window seat in the mini cabin on the 787-9. When I checked in at MAD the next morning I noticed my seats were changed due to an aircraft change. First flight wasn't full, but they had closed off the mini cabin, so I was moved to 3J. The seat next to me was empty, and that was a huge relief. The seats on their 787-8 provide FAR LESS privacy, and would not be a preferred choice of mine. Both food and service was below average. The next flight had a fully booked business class, and I was assigned to seat 1C. Same goes with the food here. Service was a little better though. I do agree with the comments about Spanish/English above.

However, the flight from GRU to MEX yesterday was very pleasant. Very nice hard product on the 787-9. Miles away from the other aircraft. Funny thing was that business class was fully booked, and I was surprised when I peaked back into the economy class to discover it was fairly empty. I would guess only 25% of the seats were taken. Food and crew was much better on this flight as well, and crew who happily engaged with me in English.

Flying from MEX to MAD on Friday, and I pray to god they won't switch aircrafts again

Either way, a bargain

Let us know if the route is open again from October onwards I am about to take the BCN-MAD-MEX-GRU leg tonight!

So far, anti-gen test was accepted, AVISA health care was checked, and the rest of check in went well. The BCN lounge is a generic VIP lounge-- it is rather spacious but quite a lot of people. Will report back on the rest.
