January might be risky unless you have an EU passport. Here is a Memorial Day example which might be more flyable..
SFO-MAD would earn 22569 MQMs 6018 MQDs 3.58 MQD Ratio while Delta Diamond members would obtain 66202 RDMs, Platinum 54166 RDMs, Gold 48147 RDMs, Silver 42129 RDMs, Base 30092 RDMs

I've seen similar fares for AM over the past six months out of MCO to MAD/AMS and some other European cities, usually around $1,800. Might be worth waiting for some better dates.

Those were just the first dates I saw; last night there was availability through EOS but now it seems to last until early June.

And again, purchase tickets only if you are willing to have AM screw you if things go sideways.

Ah, now that you mention it I think I had multiple origin airports in there when I was first searching which is why I saw EOS.

This fare has been available from SEA for quite a while, but the connection timings in MEX are awful.

You're right about the cxns in MEX. Just booked SEA-MEX-CDG for November and am taking the AM-coded AF flight from MEX-CDG and back. It was the same price as AM-operated and I prefer AF ($1,811 in biz RT). 23 hour cxn in MEX on return and about 15 hours on the outbound. AM operated have better connections but still very long.
