Now yes, a lot of airlines are doing that - difference is - AC keeps your money.
As a Canadian I am truly ashamed of this.

I am not sure why Air Canada is doing this with their fares there. Its a total money grab at this point.
I flew back 3 weeks ago on AC3 origin YYZ-YVR-NRT. New laws came out Sept 30. Really no changes. As a permanent resident of Japan I needed a CoE, PCR test signed by a doc as well 14 day quarantine and NO public transportation from NRT is allowed. Flight was $489 return 787 and endless empty rows. Slept fine so why UG. Caution as Japan out of all G7 countries is the most rigid now. The flying is easy it’s the reentry that made me realize why no one comes here aside from no tourists allowed. Just my 2 ¥en on the subject.

Might offer some clarity

Hello all

This might offer some clarity but it looks like April 2021 on a trial basis Japan may let in tourists.

I guess we'll have quite a few posts in the spring along the lines of: AC cancelled the flight and wont give me my money back!

That would work out very nicely for my April 3rd flight to HND.

It seems people hated Air Canada so much, but at least their voucher is transferrable and no expiry date while Delta's voucher has expiry date and non-transferrable. I don't get money back for delta flight either.

Yes - this thread is three weeks old... but this kind of pricing to TYO on AC has popped up a few times this year, so it may yet return.

Thats only true for voluntary cancellations

If Delta cancels your flight, you get your money back.
If AC cancels your flights, your money is forever tied to AC.

Anyone care to share their dates they purchased their flights as we count down the days?

interesting that governments close borders when travel does not appear to be primary source of current spread. oh well. hopefully in a few months having a vaccine certificate will allow entry.
