Besides the mentioned high risk, the above route is on all narrow bodies: A321neo and A319.

This one has a stopover in Lisbon and has the long segment on the A330-900neo:

Should be bookable with TAP Air:

Haven’t been keeping up with the travel world lately so I apologize for the basic question, but what makes this “high risk”? Is Tap’s covid refund policy the issue?

thanks!

September would be risky unless you have a EU passport (several asterisks regarding residence, etc) but besides that only now I've realized how short the BOS-PDL flight is... 4:50 block time red-eye...

You do not have to take BOS-PDL flight. Can route via LIS with a 'side trip' to PDL.

How exactly would you do that on TAP?

Follow the GF link in post #4 , select the carrier website and then change the dates accordingly.

So you just skip the PDL flights?

Of course not, skipping it would automatically cancel the rest of the ticket. The post you were quoting was merely suggesting that routing via LIS is better, as BOS-LIS is on A330neo vs BOS-PDL which is on A321.

you just connect either oneway or both in PDL, there are flights that just have an hour or two connection in PDL (which by the way is well worth staying a day!)

Basically this ticket is BOS-PDL. However all TP tickets allow a stopover in LIS of up to 5 days. This allows a routing BOS-LIS-PDL. What this means is that the flight to PDL is the side trip to us but the main destination for the ticket.
Skipping the PDL flight isn't an option. As it is in the middle of the ticket. If you don't mind giving up the rest of the ticket and basically using it as a one-way to Europe then you can skip the flight.
