Great fare. We’re living in Colombia right now so I checked the reverse (BOG-AMS return) and it’s still quite good at ~$1800.

haha, BOG to Europe is a completely different thing.

IMO this IB fare is not amazing; neither in price nor with 5+ hour layover at MAD on the return to AMS. AMS - BOG could be purchased for less than1,300 EUR last year with LH/LX (I hope this sale/fare will come back!) or currently for a bit higher with TK or Air Europe. Also decent fares CDG - BOG with LH are available currently.

OT: I'm how surprised how expensive fares are between SA countries, say CO til Brazil. You have dirt cheap domestic fares but traveling to neighboring countries is bloody expensive (despite the short distance)

Not to hijack this thread, but you're very right. I was attempting to book Buenos Aires to Rio/Sao Paulo....crazy one way fares. Round trip fares actually cheaper than one way fares. Ended up booking Buenos Aires (Aeroparque, trying to get on a MAX, didn't work) to Iguazu Falls, then bus across the Brazilian border, spent a night checking out the falls, then domestic flight Foz do Iguacu to Rio. A FRACTION of the cost.

You might have better luck finding cheap flights to Montevideo, which is across the bay from Buenos Aires.
