CX JFK-DPS $1,345 Premium Economy
Cathay Pacific just launched their Black Friday fare sale from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington DC and Seattle. The sale prices will be available starting at midnight on 11/27/19. You can book here on Cathay's Black Friday landing page.
Example: Flights from New York to Denpasar (Bali) are $1,345 in premium economy. This is a terrific value even before you take into account the mileage benefit. When you take into account the mileage earning potential it’s really outstanding. The roundtrip distance from JFK-HKG-DPS is 20,416 miles. If you credit your miles to American Airlines you’ll earn 100% base miles, 1.5 elite qualifying miles (“EQMs”) and .20 elite qualifying dollars (“EQD”) per mile flown. That’s 30,624 EQMs, $4,083 EQDs and 20,416 redeemable miles (“RDMs”). That’s enough to qualify for Gold status in a single trip. If you’re Platinum on American you can earn 1.8 RDMs per mile flown, which brings it up to 36,749 miles. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...364c12aa38.jpg Source: First Class Giraffe |
They're also offering Sydney/Melbourne from JFK or IAD for 1675 in PE which is the least expensive Ive seen. Unfortunately, it won't work for this year. $5092 EQDs from iad-mel with one stop in PE and a bazillion miles...

I think the HKG-DPS part is only economy.

Auckland as well from JFK or IAD. Seems around $5500 EQD. 3 R/T tickets and become EXP less than $5k if anyone is brave enough to do it :D
|
My requalification for EP this year was basically all CX PE runs to HKG and one to AKL. 🙄
|
I have DPS-California PEY tickets for April 2020 at roughly the same price.
And yes, DPS-HKG is in economy as the regional jet on that route only has Y and J seating. PER-DPS flights are cheap and numerous (though Jetstar if paying to credit to the Qantas program is one of the more expensive options). The airport hotel in DPS is quite nice (IMHO) QF's sale to the USA is/was a lot more expensive. Happy wandering Fred |

Really good deal, priced out a multi-city PE from LAX-HKG-CPT then MEL-HKG-LAX at $3,434 but with this Black Friday sale it dropped to $2,657!
(FYI this is work related so i’m just saving my bosses money in the end, which they are happy about) |
Last year it was a fixed $500 off for all PE fares, so the good deals are harder to find with this promo. I did 2x LAX-HKG-SIN last year for $900 each in PE which was a steal

Yeah, last year's was better with the $500 off, just to get some things in PE under $1k. However if you're brave enough for ultra long haul mileage running, you can do your AA re-qualification in short order with things like LAX-HKG-JNB and LAX-HKG-AKL. The shorter things this year aren't much under, or worse, than some prices that spring up normally through the year.

Is this an upgradable fare? If yes, how many Asia Miles? TIA

Upgradable fare will be at around US$2100. |
I flew EWR-HKG-MNL last year. HKG-MNL was flown on a A330, so it was Y. Occasionally, they swap to an A350 so you may get PEY on that leg.
