I had a brief look and seems to not work for any other points of departure within China. Didn’t check the Europe end. YMMV, happy to be corrected if anyone finds any others 🤣

CKG is not far from CTU.

interestingly given we have Donghai airlines service locally, that actually could be more useful than Chengdu, although it would buy me a requirement for a visa

True. I personally found QR exChina fares, especially CKG and CTU to Europe are steadily available for approx £1,200-£1,400 throughout the year, but the only drawback is one may need a Chinese visa.

I have found a new drawback namely that Donghai airlines only seem to sell point to point tickets 🤔

I think both CKG and CTU allow 72-hour transit visas for free, as long as you don’t leave the city and have a different onward destination.
