I booked this a few days ago ex-BRU. For $200 more I got a stop over in the USA for a week (EWR, but could have done SFO too, and I saw IAD worked as well). And I was able to to apply GPU's. I may book another one!

I looked up the fare rules. Seems that it applies to South West Pacific destinations that United flies to.

Thank you for confirming this works with stopovers. Makes it somewhat intriguing to me...but I am having trouble figuring out how to initiate my trip in Europe given the uncertainty in my schedule.

Very interesting! If my understanding of GPU usage is correct, a single GPU could be used to upgrade across both oceans (BRU-EWR-SFO-AKL) as long as it is considered a single journey. Presumably, adding a 1-week stopover breaks the journey and therefore requires 2 GPUs?

yeah if the ongoing flight is a different day (over 24 hours) then its gonna need 2GPU per direction otherwise one would do it and be an incredible value!!
