I concluded it's not.

Domestic upgrades almost never clear (tired of dying number 1 on the list) and while international upgrades to F from C are pretty easy, Y to C never seems to clear in advance so I won't risk it (and I am certain they do it on purpose).

ExPlat gives me a few more miles and a free drink. Just not worth it.

I am now a free agent.

I got $2403 without AMEX IAP lots of under $2500 many dates on ITA as of 9/21

If I buy with the ticket with Amex IAP do I need to choose JAL FF number then contact JAL to credit to AA so I can get more EQMs/EQDs?

How are you guys booking this fare? I found it on google flights for $2455 and the dates are workable for me in Jan so I can get a good jump towards earning EXP but when I click to book it, it shows a fare of $3200 on the JL website.

Tried thru Expedia and it shows $6500....
