AA/QF J SFO-MEL under $3500RT

Only way I see to book is through amextravel, but it's neither an insider fare, nor part of IAP-- ie, you don't need to be logged in to book it. From what I can tell, you need to connect in LAX or SYD, but other routings/nonstops may be available. Doesn't appear to have a min-stay either.

One way also available for $2300

Not the deal of the century, but not bad.

Actually works from JFK with flat-bed transcon for $100 more. And only $2874 from YVR. Probably some more cities.

JFK-MEL

This would ticket as an AA ticket for mileage purposes, right? Trying to see if I can find a way to ticket it on QF.

tomvancouver May 22, 2019 6:47 pm

And YVR-BNE via LAX for $2939
(subsequently booked and ticketed)

What's the cheapest one has seen on this route (or from the west coast)? Does it get much cheaper than this?

Rowyourboat May 22, 2019 8:45 pm

YYZ-MEL also $3500 through EOS on AC+QF, ticketed by AA: https://flights.app.goo.gl/9LFxi

If it seems to good to be true...?

Went fairly deep into the booking process on both LAX and YVR originations via AmEx. When it comes to seat selection, the "business" seats on the trans-pacific legs are actually Y+. I didn't try every combination, but my suspicion is that the reason this only shows up on AmEx is that J isn't actually available on the one leg that counts. Would be happy to stand corrected and may tinker further.

This definitely shows up in J booking class on seat selection on Amex through LAX. (I'm booking on AA metal.) Flight books into R class, which is business on AA.

Do you mean Premium economy? A separate class on AA & QF.
Economy plus Y+ (or other airline jargon) is economy class with more leg room. QF do not have Y+.

I slept on it and just booked this for December. Prices are the same, and I looked at a few other sites, not finding any similar at this price, but only 7 seats available most flights. I need two, and decided I don't want to take the chance of having to travel without a flatbed. I'm just hoping the aircraft problems are fixed by then, or the substitute is flatbed as well.

What aircraft problems?

LAX-MEL/BNE seat map is PE not business. Maybe a mapping error?

cheltzel May 23, 2019 6:12 am

Interested in booking this out of YYZ. Anybody go through QF seat assignment and found it actually books into business class (was able to assign a business seat)?

A year and half ago, I flew nonstop from LAX to SYD (and back) on UA for $2,700.
