AS LAX-OGG first $921 roundtrip

Alaska Air LAX-OGG nonstop roundtrip in first for $921 using an AMEXTravel.com Insider Fare, or $977 booking directly with AS.
Fare basis is KL0OZSFN, books into "I" (which earns 175% into AS Mileage Plan), travel permitted Mon-Thurs.
Alaska Air's 738 with 41" of pitch is the 2nd best hard product on the route, after HA's flat beds which costs $1207 (if you can find "A" inventory).
This fare was filed on March 5th, usual lowest first class for LAX-OGG nonstop roundtrip is ~$1200, with extremely limited inventory around winter holidays.
AS is more generous, for instance a busy Jan 2020 holiday weekend:

Sorry. Flying on a narrow-body with 2-2 seating doesn't count as "First" If AS is going to do longer hauls, they're going to have to up their hard product. Just sayin'

Sorry. Don't need to pay a 30% premium for a wide-body nappy-poo on a 5 hour day flight. Just sayin'

AS SFO/OAK/SJC to various HI islands is in this range as well. As low as $878 for midweek departures.

Writing this from Hawaii right now and flying back to SF next week in AS F. Whatever you call this seat, it is better than coach, and this is a good price. My issue with AS F is when they charge the same price as lieflat, eg vs Hawaiian.

If memory serves AS paid F (any inventory/booking class I guess) gives you lounge access in the West Coast while HA F does not.

Except at SFO, SJC and OAK
(unless you can get into the CX SFO lounge)

For LAX-OGG, the price difference is almost $300 roundtrip for flat-beds on HA at $1207 vs. 2nd best domestic F 41" recliners on AS at $921 (via AMEX).
I'll always pay that ~$300 premium when HA makes "A" inventory available, but otherwise these AS 738 F fares are delightful.

This doesn't seem like that good of a deal. I'm not sure what it means for the "normal" fare to be $1200 but $500 F one-ways from SFO or OAK aren't that rare (I can't imagine that LAX would be more -- it's generally more competitive and cheaper)

$600-$650 each way will get you a lie-flat on UA when P space is available on the right equipment. So, HA is not the only option.

From LAX UA flies the cattle 777 with 8-across (2-4-2) seats in "First". Not to mention that the return flight arrives at LAX @ 4:55am...
The ONLY other acceptable option for lie-flat seats besides HA is DL on the LAX-HNL route...

If the lie-flats on the 772 are "First" (with the quotes) then what is AS, with "recliners" that barely recline? ""First""? Why don't we just call it premium economy?

Also, that is my preferred arrival time. If the flight is not long enough for a full night's sleep then I want to get in early enough to nap at home before work. I can't sleep before the flight, so I want enough time to sleep after. I do the same when flying into SFO.

You are mistaken.
Besides this new AS first fare, the cheapest LAX-OGG nonstop roundtrip in the front cabin is $1208 on HA.
This thread is about LA Maui nonstops.
Not the fares and products on offer between other west coast cities and Hawaii.

So, if AS and HA were the only carriers in the US, this would be a good deal? Don't get me wrong; I'm glad you posted it (thanks for that) because it's informative. But it's $4 cheaper each way than DL ($493 each way), eg https://flights.app.goo.gl/xBzm9.

that’s a newly filed DL fare, a competitive response to AS.
i fly this route a lot in paid first.
it’s been $600 lowest each way nonstops for a couple years

Good to hear! Here's hoping UA takes the bait...
