J is a generic description for business class. Just like Y for coach.

It is R -- I just returned from DFW-DOH-BKK as of Feb 13th. I bought last Nov - Cyber Monday Sale -- $2800 ish.

One interesting note - the miles going over posted in 2 days. I've been back 2 weeks and the return miles have not posted yet. I called the AADvantage desk and they said they would track them down, although they told me it may take up to 30 days to post. FYI.

The EQD's based on distance which is nice.

well ... technically, it can be both a generic and a specific fare class.

Yes, but generally on FT J means business and Y means coach. If someone refers to the actual fare class they normally note it as such. Either by saying FULL J or J fare class.
