Not trying to be rude but per AA.com
To earn AAdvantage® miles when you fly on Cathay Pacific marketed and operated flights as well as Cathay Pacific codeshare flights operated by oneworld® carriers and affiliates:

There are flights between Auckland and Hong Kong operated by Air New Zealand, but marketed by CX (CX XXX) - these flights will earn miles as usual. Flights both marketed and operated by Air New Zeland (flight numbers NZ XXX) will not earn miles on AA. Therefore, there are 2 options: choose flights between HKG and AKL that are both marketed and operated by CX, or, if HKG-AKL segment is operated by NZ, make sure that the flight is marketed by CX and has CX flight number to get miles for that segment.

In Oneworld alliance miles are credited based on marketing airline. If you book on CX website, flights operated by NZ will most likely be marked by CX and will have CX flights numbers. For mileage credit purposes, this should works as usual as CX credits flights operated by NZ for HKG-AKL segments (if marketed by CX) to its own program as usual.
If in doubt, you can always contact your airline. You can also choose HKG-AKL flights operated by CX to be safe as CX operates its own flights to AKL.

AA’s website is similarly clear that it needs to be Cathay codes and operated OR Cathay coded and oneworld operated:

Ok, I will correct myself. After checking further it appears that you indeed cannot earn miles for flights operated by NZ, but marked by CX, unless you credit to Asia Miles (CX has special agreement with NZ). Otherwise, no credit in OW airline FF programs. Therefore, unless you credit to Asia Miles, be sure to choose flights that are both marked and operated by CX. It appears that price is mostly same and should not be an issue, unless you really want to fly in PE on NZ.
