The LA fare is both AC and CZ. It seems like a lot of CZ fares ex-LAX all over China in Spring.

Loving the fare, gives you 1.25x Award miles on UA based on distance flown (about 15k), 1x PQM.

The 7 day stay does kill it for me a bit, but trains + flights domestically in China are very cheap, so you could always book a ticket and hop to another city. If I had more vacation days to burn, I would jump on this one.

I believe that CZ is one of the primary drivers of this fare war; it is trying to fill seats on its LAX-SHE flight, which has almost no O/D demand in the dead of winter.

stellar for business class, not worth it for economy. too bad the dates are limited.

does CA have 180 lie-flat seats?

Per Google Flights and
the answer seems to be yes. Note : the flight is on a 747 which some may argue is dated, but IMHO is the best aircraft to fly on given the presence of the upper deck! The sound of 4 GE engines spooling up down the runway is music to my ears

Late to the party. Good fares for J are gone (?)
Am interested SFO-PEK-SFO, and now fares have gone up almost two folds.

Not late to the party at all! We've still got some champers waiting for you in the fridge

The good news is that there is still availability, albeit it appears that the outbound must now be February 5th, with the return date being somewhat flexible (i.e. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday in February and March):

LAX to PEK also a possibility with slightly more dates in February and May:

Uh, that’s a 747-800. Nobody is gonna call that plane dated.

From the video I was watching on the flight, the aircraft they use was delivered in 2013/2014. Any aircraft that's lost that new plane smell is dated in my books Granted it's no Brian Mulroney paper bag special like the ones AC continues to run to this day.

Sadly it can't be done that late (although there's some good availability out of LAX as well in the first half). Unfortunately neither do I work for an airline nor do I have the fat fingers both of which seem necessary to make deals appear on Google Flights

I'm actually based out of PEK now (expat) so I would to emphasize a lot of what the others have said here:
  • DO NOT try to take a domestic train last minute in the first half of Feb. it really is nuts!
  • Beijing and Shanghai are great to visit during spring festival because most of the crowds have left.
  • If you can get a connecting flight to Haerbin to check out the snow/ice festival it's really worth it!
  • Yes CA Business class is 180 lie flat and I found nicer than AC (YMMV)
  • Premium economy on CA is basically economy with a pair of slippers
Pocatello and wxman22 like this.

huh?

1. AC business class is 1-2-1 and much better than CA 2-2-2 (other than the a350).
2. CA cabin is filthy regardless of class.

It's BAAAACK!

Spotted on flights for around $1,750 USD roundtrip:
https://www.google.com/flights?lite=0#flt=SFO.PEK.2019-04-02.SFOPEK0CA986*PEK.SFO.2019-04-10.PEKSFO0CA985;c:USD;e:1;sc:b;sd:1;t:b;sp:2.USD.1 75243*2.USD.175243

Seems to have decent availability in early April.
