Meet Up & Tips Thread AUH-CMB-CGK fare:

TIPS

PSA: You WILL receive TPs and Avios even on promotional fare I Class (the no miles restriction only applies to UL's own programme).
1. The footrest on the Neo is pretty useless. It's not deep enough to hold both feet, and too high for anyone over 5ft!
2. The IFE on the Neo is crisp, but the screens on the A321-200s are also very good - they fold out from the central armrest
3. Despite the 2300 departure time from AUH, meals are provided - and thus the lights come on. There's no blindfold in the UL miniature amenity kit, so bring your own.
4. Even with the seat in front of you fully reclined, there is plenty of space to get out
5. Despite the IFE and power boxes, there is a huge amount of legroom (even for me at 6ft).
6. Upon arrival into CGK, try and grab a golf-buggy to Passport Control. It is free, and tipping is hugely frowned upon (there's a sign) - it's much quicker than walking.
7. Dependent on your passport, you may have to fill in an Immigration form. UL do not stock them onboard.
8. Once through to the baggage hall, grab a Customs form, UL wont provide this on the plane, but you'll need it to exit into the main arrivals area.
9. If using Grab Taxi (around 60% cheaper than the official airport taxis), head to the right once through into the main Arrivals area. It will lead into the car park, where you will meet your driver.
10. UL use Check-In Desks C5-C9 - between entrances 2 and 3. There is Security upon entry, but only for your baggage.
11. The Saphire CGK lounge has poor air-con, but decent drinks and acceptable food choices. Good wifi too, with views of the runway, so you can spot your plane landing. The buffet area has the best air-con if you're warm.
12. There is no Fast Track for UL passengers, and be cautious of the Ladies Only Lane at security - which often has shorter queues, but which I couldn't use.
13. If it's a bussed departure from CMB (clue:the downstairs gates) don't bust a gut to kick your heels in the lounge. J-class passengers are the very last ones to be picked (by a dedicated bus). If you are last minute, let one of the supervisors know and he/she will facilitate your passage through security. This can be a successful ploy if you are simply impatient and have a J-class bc
14. At CGK UL will check bags on separate tickets to final destination -- reportedly this holds even where non-OneWorld carriers are involved.

My bank isn't UK, so, different rules apply. They won't budge

I got a response from UL last night:

We're unable to check the refund process from our end. Due to the flight cancellations arising due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the refund volumes have increased significantly, exceeding 10 times the usual volume. The refund team have taken a number of steps to increase there refund capabilities by utilizing additional resources and tools which have significantly increased there daily refund processing capabilities. The refund team intend to complete the current backlog of refunds by August 2020. We request that you bear with us until our Online Refunds Team gets in touch with you. Appreciate your patience.

I've found UL to be polite and efficient - taken the voucher and hope to fly with them next year Am sure the deal will be back in due course so we can jump back in.

My AUH positioning flight likely to be cancelled - if it is I'll get rebooked otherwise just go to AUH for a 3 night mini break and chill.

All good

Just seeing emails dropping in tonight cancelling my UL flights. 26th and 28th June (both CMB-CGK sectors). Expecting the other sectors on the two bookings to follow.

Anyone any joy to date on refunds?

Zero joy from my end. Looking at twitter, seems no one is getting refunds. If you've been reading the news lately, they need a bailout to cover their debts, so I'm not hopeful.

I had an email from the online_refunds email address of Sri Lankan (on 20 May) acknowledging receipt of my refund request and confirming funds would be credited back to my original credit card.

I thought that was a positive step in the right direction, but no money has been deposited so far.

Another data point: refund requested 28 April. EMail received from UL on 27 May stating that full refund would be made to CC.
When I called them, back in April, the agent said that the refund should take 14-15 working days “but may take longer”. It's definitely taking longer but at least its somewhere in the system.

I've found the UL site so unbearably slow I can't even open my booking. I can see on Finnair MMB that I have a schedule change to accept (first flight arrives 5 minutes earlier) but for now my AUH-CGK departing late August and back early'ish September seems to still be operating. So does my BA positioning flight, but August will be the next round of cancellations in a month or so I'd say.

While I'll still believe it when the money is in my account, they have posted this on their website:
https://www.srilankan.com/en_uk/copo...ews-detail/498

Colombo 14th May 2020, 1155 hours - Sri Lankan Time: Due to the flight cancellations arising due to the COVID 19 pandemic, our refund volumes have increased significantly, exceeding 10 times the usual volume.

We have taken a number of steps to increase our refund capabilities by utilizing additional resources and tools which have significantly increased our daily refund processing capabilities. We intend to complete the current backlog of refunds by August 2020.

SriLankan Airlines also wishes to inform its valued customers that for the tickets purchased online, the refund process will take additional time since the Airline will require to liaise with Internet Payment Gateways (IPGs) in the remittance of money for refunds.
I don't expect UL has massive resources available, or the best IT systems, to deal with all these refunds quickly.

Online Refund Email

For information, I received the email below for three bookings I cancelled on 3 April. This is slightly more detail than the one I received on 28 May for a booking cancelled in March, which still has not hit my card.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Greetings from SriLankan Airlines.
Your request has been duly received and it is in the refund process.
Please note that the Full refund will be credited to your credit/debit card.
This amount is an approximate figure and the actual refund amount may vary at the time of refund.
For any subsequent inquiries please reply on the same email thread.
We have taken a number of steps to increase our refund capabilities by utilizing additional resources and tools which have significantly increased our daily refund processing capabilities. We intend to complete the current backlog of refunds by August 2020.
Sri Lankan Airlines also wishes to inform its valued customers that for the tickets purchased online, the refund process will take additional time since the Airline will require to liaise with Internet Payment Gateways (IPGs) in the remittance of money for refunds. For more information please click here
Thank you for contacting SriLankan Airlines and have a pleasant day!
The bolding is mine and assume this refers to any exchange rate fluctuation, which may result in a higher / lower refund depending on currency.

That's the same email that I received on 02 June. I cancelled my two bookings on 20 March. Still no evidence of the refund as yet. The email is obviously just a holding email to make customers feel like something is actually happening!

Agreed. As I said in one of my posts above, I'll believe it when the refund is in my account!

One thing I did notice (I had five AUH - CGK bookings) is the emails were sent in the order I requested the refunds online, with similar spacing between the requests. So at least the holding emails seem to be being sent in some sort of order.

I’ve a couple of bookings in August. Wondering what will be the situation with regards to these. I also need to look at the new rules introduced by the Sri Lankan government. Wonder if these will also impact on passengers in transit.

I'd guess that it would be a positive for your tickets that haven't been flown yet-- that UL will likely be flying in the near months since they have opened up for foreign tourism with extensive testing (pre flight, post flight, and after 5 and 10 days in country).

Are they offering any incentive to take a voucher rather than get a refund for cancelled flights?

the commoner, and most useful, forms of incentive:
  • an uptick in value (TAP gives 20%),
  • rebooking possible with no fare increase (Lufthansa and others)
