Meet Up & Tips Thread AUH-CMB-CGK fare:

TIPS

PSA: You WILL receive TPs and Avios even on promotional fare I Class (the no miles restriction only applies to UL's own programme).
1. The footrest on the Neo is pretty useless. It's not deep enough to hold both feet, and too high for anyone over 5ft!
2. The IFE on the Neo is crisp, but the screens on the A321-200s are also very good - they fold out from the central armrest
3. Despite the 2300 departure time from AUH, meals are provided - and thus the lights come on. There's no blindfold in the UL miniature amenity kit, so bring your own.
4. Even with the seat in front of you fully reclined, there is plenty of space to get out
5. Despite the IFE and power boxes, there is a huge amount of legroom (even for me at 6ft).
6. Upon arrival into CGK, try and grab a golf-buggy to Passport Control. It is free, and tipping is hugely frowned upon (there's a sign) - it's much quicker than walking.
7. Dependent on your passport, you may have to fill in an Immigration form. UL do not stock them onboard.
8. Once through to the baggage hall, grab a Customs form, UL wont provide this on the plane, but you'll need it to exit into the main arrivals area.
9. If using Grab Taxi (around 60% cheaper than the official airport taxis), head to the right once through into the main Arrivals area. It will lead into the car park, where you will meet your driver.
10. UL use Check-In Desks C5-C9 - between entrances 2 and 3. There is Security upon entry, but only for your baggage.
11. The Saphire CGK lounge has poor air-con, but decent drinks and acceptable food choices. Good wifi too, with views of the runway, so you can spot your plane landing. The buffet area has the best air-con if you're warm.
12. There is no Fast Track for UL passengers, and be cautious of the Ladies Only Lane at security - which often has shorter queues, but which I couldn't use.
13. If it's a bussed departure from CMB (clue:the downstairs gates) don't bust a gut to kick your heels in the lounge. J-class passengers are the very last ones to be picked (by a dedicated bus). If you are last minute, let one of the supervisors know and he/she will facilitate your passage through security. This can be a successful ploy if you are simply impatient and have a J-class bc
14. At CGK UL will check bags on separate tickets to final destination -- reportedly this holds even where non-OneWorld carriers are involved.

Im as my name suggests winging it with one world, I had a funny 5 minutes back in June last year when booked my first ever first class ticket for my mum and I, it felt good so I did some more research and I now find myself tying here in FT.

I have some how managed silver status and with this tier point run with the rest of my flights booked will achieve gold this year. Hopefully reading all that has been written here I have got it right with sales and ticketed fares. I do rabbit on so forgive me, I think the whole purpose of this post was to have it added to the wiki. So please if possible and Ive done it right as requested.

Anyhow from what I have seen and read it will be a challenge in its own right, one Im looking forward to achieving. Who knows I may meet others that are also winging it 😇😇😇

Hello and welcome to FT and in particular the Premium Fare deals and this thread.
You don't need to worry, you're in the right place, and all of us have made a first post at one time.

As one needs 90 days of membership and 90 posts under the belt to edit the Wiki, I've fixed that for you.

Cred to you for also mentioning hotels, as that also is a source of meeting others taking 'a challenge' or just flying too much anyhow

See you in a plane/lounge!

I did, at the time, take advantage of the WT+ positioning flights in the BA sale, so I now feel like I'm playing a game of chicken. If I don't book something before Sept we'll have 9 days in AUH! Fingers crossed for better next time.
There is of course no guarantee for another sale with a discount of the same magnitude as what has been coming, being extended, going and coming back again.

As I already have 2 trips in both April and October, I have concluded that this sale is not for me. For you being two, and already made reservations for positioning, I certainly don't envy yo right now. But, and a very large but, there's more than half a year until September.

As I said in the post you qoute above, I'll be waiting for a 'real' sale (-40%) within weeks/couple of months.
If I'm wrong, you might need to be looking for a sale of sunscreen with high SPF to endure 9 days in DXB

Smile Going for LTG

First many thanks to everyone for all the practical information posted above. I have just booked a number of returns to CGK for early March using Amex and should be grateful if anyone could clarify the information requirements for the email ([email protected]) credit card check. I can send in a copy of my Amex statement but not an official bank statement showing my payment to Srilankan Airlines: presumably the Amex statement would work?

Will go to 2500 TP+ this year and just short of 35000 for LTG.

HBO/Print paper boarding passes where needed in CGK/CMB lounges.

Being a first time poster I cannot add my flight details to the Wikki. If someone could add these details I should be very grateful.

Most UK flights seat 2A.
Jakarta hotels not yet determined but most likely one of the airport hotels FM7/Orchardz Bandara.
May travel from INV but price difference only 150 and would need flight up to INV plus overnight hotel. Probably already have enough fun on this trip without adding additional complications

Need day room in Dubai - will check if this is offered by Premier Inn as it seems this hotel is linked to the terminal.

Regarding hotels near CGK Accor is currently having a 40% off sale and the new Swissotel Jakarta PIK Avenue is included that was recommended somewhere upthread. Fairly decent prices (~60€+taxes) so booked two separate one night stays there myself.

Yes, you were right-- thanks for that! I ended up waiting to book till I see how the China/Asia corona virus story plays out. My flights aren't till mid July so not a rush! Also seeing some people are waiting for a bigger discount, that seems like a good plan for my situation.

Perhaps the V-day sale didnt generate very many bookings - new sale on from AUH.

Save 25% off on Business Class from Abu Dhabi.

Book on 19th February 06th March 2020 Travel to commence between 19th February 06th March 2020
(blackout date - 3rd March)

Valid from Abu Dhabi to Colombo, Chennai, Tiruchchirapalli, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Dhaka, Hyderabad and Jakarta

Hoping this 25% off isnt the new norm.

Bugger. I have positioned myself to DXB in expectation of the next sale. Oh well, still got a couple of months to go.

Very narrow window this time and as you say not a great discount. This would suggest to me that bookings are light, as this is for travel now, for the next 2 weeks, normally fares are at their highest just before travel, or is this something that UL regularly do?
The only thing is with this sale on we are unlikely to get the leap year sale that someone further up the thread was hoping for, so I'm still waiting and hoping!

This looks like the mid-January sale that was only valid for early February bookings.

Message to UL: consider another sale, and there will be many willing candidates to help you find passengers to the increased seat capacity.
regarding aircraft changes to widebody a330

Has anyone had a change of plane from this article? I have looked on seat guru and expert flyer and my flights are still all A321’s 😟😟😟
