Meet Up & Tips Thread AUH-CMB-CGK fare:

TIPS

PSA: You WILL receive TPs and Avios even on promotional fare I Class (the no miles restriction only applies to UL's own programme).
1. The footrest on the Neo is pretty useless. It's not deep enough to hold both feet, and too high for anyone over 5ft!
2. The IFE on the Neo is crisp, but the screens on the A321-200s are also very good - they fold out from the central armrest
3. Despite the 2300 departure time from AUH, meals are provided - and thus the lights come on. There's no blindfold in the UL miniature amenity kit, so bring your own.
4. Even with the seat in front of you fully reclined, there is plenty of space to get out
5. Despite the IFE and power boxes, there is a huge amount of legroom (even for me at 6ft).
6. Upon arrival into CGK, try and grab a golf-buggy to Passport Control. It is free, and tipping is hugely frowned upon (there's a sign) - it's much quicker than walking.
7. Dependent on your passport, you may have to fill in an Immigration form. UL do not stock them onboard.
8. Once through to the baggage hall, grab a Customs form, UL wont provide this on the plane, but you'll need it to exit into the main arrivals area.
9. If using Grab Taxi (around 60% cheaper than the official airport taxis), head to the right once through into the main Arrivals area. It will lead into the car park, where you will meet your driver.
10. UL use Check-In Desks C5-C9 - between entrances 2 and 3. There is Security upon entry, but only for your baggage.
11. The Saphire CGK lounge has poor air-con, but decent drinks and acceptable food choices. Good wifi too, with views of the runway, so you can spot your plane landing. The buffet area has the best air-con if you're warm.
12. There is no Fast Track for UL passengers, and be cautious of the Ladies Only Lane at security - which often has shorter queues, but which I couldn't use.
13. If it's a bussed departure from CMB (clue:the downstairs gates) don't bust a gut to kick your heels in the lounge. J-class passengers are the very last ones to be picked (by a dedicated bus). If you are last minute, let one of the supervisors know and he/she will facilitate your passage through security. This can be a successful ploy if you are simply impatient and have a J-class bc
14. At CGK UL will check bags on separate tickets to final destination -- reportedly this holds even where non-OneWorld carriers are involved.

It seems so, indeed, but there's no availability after the summer (August-December), which would've been more relevant for me. But I've already changed my plans and will be doing a very different itenerary for BAEC TPs in my next membership year.

Have flown UL before and liked it.

I've never done the transfer from DXB to AUH (which I'd need to do), how is it ? And what is the best way to sensibly do it ? Any taxi firms I should go for in particular ? - actually there will be other threads for that I guess !

Having flown UL before I'm a bit annoyed I haven't received the 10% off business class email :-(

Can the $666 fare be manipulated to include a stopover in CMB ? I'm presuming it'd go up by at least the departure taxes if in excess of 24hrs but has anyone experimented with adding a week or so ?

EDIT:
Having used the multistop option on the UL website I've discovered the prices seem to double when I add a week long stopover in CMB :-(

You can throw money at the transfer and get a taxi (60+ ?). The value option would be get a Noi card loaded up at the airport metro station, take the metro to al Gubhaiba bus station for the (very frequent, perfectly comfortable, paid by Noi card) bus to Abu Dhabi then a taxi to the airport. OK, you could get the bus from the Abu Dhabi bus terminus - but that might be taking value too far

Taxi would be something like 90 minutes, depends on local traffic: the public transport option twice as long but way cheaper.

Alternatively bus it and overnight in Abu Dhabi: it's worth seeing.

I am not sure if this helps as a reference point but we actually did a transfer on the reverse route, Abu Dhabi city to Dxb airport. We just asked our hotel in Abu Dhabi about the rates and after some haggling, managed to get a car for about 400 dirhams arranged by someone at the concierge. These personnel at the concierge don't get much (or anything) if the hotel car is provided so you can definitely haggle with them and be sure that they will have their own private people to do these transfers. (I am sure they get a commission!)

While 400 dirhams is still expensive, it was for an MPV as we had a lot of luggage. A regular sedan car could likely cost a little less.

It was a comfortable 2hr journey and if flight options are better either in terms of pricing or availability from the other city, it is still a viable option to do the transfer between the cities. Just take note of peak hour traffic.

Cheers!

A typical mercedes MPV from the taxi rank at AUH would have cost 300 dirhams into Dubai. And no need for haggling :-)

Not disputing that it could have been (a little) cheaper, but our poster was starting from Abu Dhabi city so not directly comparable.

Thank you Stargold, yes you have rightly pointed out the difference! It would take maybe +/- 80 dirhams to get to AUH from the city (it was 95 from AUH to city but i believe the return would not be subject to the AED 25.00 starting meter that are specifically for airport departures) so taking that into account, we more or less paid the standard rate

Is it correct that this fare no longer allows stopovers in CMB?

Thanks.

Want to do B2B trip between 2 tix and quick turnover in AUH not CGK. Only have 1hour between. Arrived on 22:00pm and dept on 23:00.
Is it possible to do online checkin and use mobile BP in AUH? Cuz according to UL website states counter checkin doesn't include UAE. Anyone have try on this tight schedule?

All the advice I've seen here says that you need a printed BP for the UL flights - and IIRC, there was also a credit card check at the desk when I checked in at DXB for my run to Jakarta.
