Is ITA Matrix usually good/accurate when it comes to finding these fares? ITA is showing plenty of availability from LHR to MAA in March but I can’t seem to find anything on LH’s own website.

there seems to be no (or very limited) first availability on the way out from EDI only inbound- having to fly ex GLA to DEL and back to EDI to get first both ways

In regards to the LH site giving errors or just refreshing, it’s terrible design, but if that happens it means that there’s no A Class (the required cheaper First Class fare class) available on those days.
If you have access to Expertflyer (or similar), I recommend searching for A Class availability and then trying to replicate that itinerary on LH.com
The problem is (as I stated above), there is very low A Class availability on these routes ex-LHR (there is much more available on the same long haul flights if you just search ex-Germany), which is why it’s hard to find a fare.
A travel agent can price it easily as long as there are two A Class seats available. J is the short-haul booking glass. A travel agent can also help price it with a layover, as long as the total time in ZRH/FRA/MUC is less than 24 hours. I did this today with a layover in ZRH.
A travel agent can also waitlist A Class for you, and if it clears it’ll price as the sale fare. Much higher chance of it clearing the higher your status with M&M (FTL, SEN or HON). There is no guarantee it’ll clear anytime soon though, obviously the more F Class seats (and also Business Cladd) available the higher the chance. I waitlist A Class regularly and I think I’ve only had one case where it didn’t clear, and they told me it wouldn’t as it looked like Business Class was going to be well oversold.
Good luck. If you can use this fare, it’s excellent, especially to the £2999 destinations.

Thanks for this information. I presume it might be easier to call LH reservations to book, seeing as it's obviously not online only. That way I can easily do my outbound J Class European the day before the F flight. One thing to clarify though is what makes up the 24 hrs connecting time. Is it the actual connecting time between flights or is it the time between departure time of your first J European flight until the departure time of the next day F flight? I'm assuming it will be the former i. e. time between the arrival of the first flight and departure time of the F flight the next day? Thanks.

How do you find a reputable travel agent to handle these types of specific bookings?

If you don’t have a credit card with travel services, maybe someone else on this forum can help recommending a travel agent? I know there are some German based ones which specialise in LH/LX.

Very welcome. I just use the travel services which come with my Amex card, so if you have an Amex try them. You often do need to feed them the information though.

Just so people know. I called LH twice today about these fares. The first person didn't know anything about them at all. I called again and the second person knew, but they say they can only be booked via LH.COM not over the phone, so there is no flexibility in choosing different connecting flights. Only what's shown online.
