BLR-LAX AA R fare $1450 (one way)

Not a crazy good fare, but if you want something more flexible than your run of the mill super discount "I" fare this could be good, also good where I class is sparse and you want to book 3-4 passengers on the same flight as AA is much more generous with the R bucket. I know that at times you can get a roundtrip for roughly this price from India/Sri Lanka to the US, but at times you might not.

About a week ago AA filed a number of R bucket fares from various India cities to LAX, with BLR-LAX seemingly the lowest at just under $1500. But you can find the same fare class for CCU, DEL, HYD, etc
Fare basis is RNE00YN3 and key terms are $150 cancel, $75 change, no HIP exception and 75% child fare.

As for routing rules, it only allows one transfer in area 3, so that limits what you can do. It does have a broader list of permitted carriers beyond OW carriers, but it still can be tough to do anything more than India-HKG-LAX. I did get some routings to work though NRT and then JL metal on the was to LAX. Also looks like you can route through DFW but I think that starts to hit you with an MPM charge and so the fare would be higher.

It's also available for BOS. Unfortunately, the single Area 3 transfer (and prohibition against surface sectors) makes it impossible to use any Area 3 gateway except HKG. Otherwise, flying the most direct route nearly blows up the MPM.

Don't even get me started on the DEL-BOS version of this fare. The MPM is so comically low it also forces HKG and LAX transits.

That said, it's a decent fare for earning TPs on BA. Routing through HKG, LAX and JFK nets 480 TPs.

Full J on the LAX-JFK leg would earn 3x EQM. That's not bad.

Apologies for the perhaps obvious question, but I'm still new to this. How does the $75 change work on a fare like this? If I were to buy this fare, pick my dates, and later have to change one of them, would I pay only $75, or $75 plus the difference between the fare I paid and whatever the fare has risen to at the moment I need to make the change? Thanks in advance for any clarification you can give.

ExpertFlyer, for one. You can also click on the fare rules in ITA once you get it to price up. Might need Powertools installed to make that work -- I forget.

Or MH/JL for $1369 one way also. Cheap O Air has an interesting MH codeshare of the JL NRT-BOS flight, which makes this better for EQD's as well as RDM's.

Just got this for BLR-KUL-NRT/HND-JFK for next Jan, so it's still bookable. I was seeing availability in the $1367 price range to both BOS and ORD as well, but everything but cheapO was throwing an error when I went through to purchase. JFK booked cleanly on the MH site and into a flex D fare with a $75 cancel, if I read the fare correctly. Got the JL codeshare to NRT as well. Solid EQD and earnings. I've done better, but it's also just a good flight with long haul on JL.

For an AA EXP, it's even better on the RDM- 11,894 base + .25 cabin bonus x 120% status bonus = 32,708 RDM if I'm doing the cabin bonus right (or is it not subject to the 120% multiplier?). It's like the good old days of earnings either way.

yup, the MH fare has been there a long time and there are many other ex-India ONeworld partner fares that get you more miles or dollars. But the AA fare is a solid way to land a large group up in F in first if you have SWUs to burn.

BTW- Gone. Too bad, before I could book. It was in the GDS yesterday, but now only shows up if I look for historical fares for yesterday.

And the order of all of the AA fare basis codes is now more correct, meaning that R fares are not cheaper than I as they were since the "xNE00YN3" family of fares were out of order since these were filed on July 13. RNE00YN3 ($1084 base) was cheaper than INE00YN3 ($2302 base) and R is always more expensive than I with AA fares in the same family. But now if you look the DNE00YN3 ($3099 base) and INE00YN3 ($2332 base) are there but the R variant is missing. A possible sign of fat fingers on entering the R variant of this family of fares.
