Thanks for both your responses! I have just tried to change seats to 1A/K on the 747 but it seems to be giving me an error. I am currently Gold, but it will expire this month so I wonder whether that is the reason it's not letting me choose them

Possibly but more likely to be because the person you are travelling with isn't gold, is this the case? You need to both be Gold to get 1A/K

Yes that makes sense! Are the 2 seats close enough together that if I was in 1A and someone else is in 1K that it would be awkward? May go for 1A and 2A perhaps

1A/K are the best they are close enough for a chat but not close enough to be akward if someone else

If you want to guarantee seats go with 1A & 2A

Just had a similar issue trying to get 1 A/K on the 744 - Rang gold Line who confirmed (after checking) both pax need to be gold - I had always assumed if the booking was via a gold member then the benefits cascaded. Selfishly, I'm sitting in the nose

I had the same issue. Contacted BA and they've been slow to respond... Now someone has taken 1A, so we're stuck in 4E&F. Bit annoying.
I also think it's an error the seats are blocked for Gold only: in CE the booker, if Gold, can select rows 1&2 for all party (whereas Silver on separate ticket is blocked, only row 3 and beyond available).

That has always been the rule, error or not.

On 744 I'd only take 1A/K on a day flight when I wanted to socialise and not worry too much about noise. Night flight I'd be happy with 2A/K - quick buddy drink and then snooze.
