Suggestion: Prior to going there, see if you can see the movie Gandhi...absolutely true to facts, fascinating. A bit long by western standards but worth every minute.

Time permitting, I'd also like to visit Gandhi's ashram at Sabarmati.
Le Corbusier has designed a few iconic buildings in Ahmedabad. If you have a few hours, start by visiting The Calico Textile museum. It is housed in a building designed by Le Corbusier. Fascinating exhibit to boot. Head towards Sanskar Kendra, another one of his gems. For a late lunch head to The House of MG. It is an old mansion that has been converted into a fully functioning hotel. It has some interesting history and also amazing local snacks and excellent hygiene. Bang opposite is the Sidi Saeed Mosque. Have a look at the exquisite carvings. Make your way to Gandhi Ashram towards the early evening. But my favorite in Ahmedabad is definitely the IIM. The exposed brick structure still strikes awe in me every time I drive past. It is a sight to behold. It may also be the most difficult to visit. Earlier they used to be pretty lax with security and anybody could enter the IIM campus. Not so anymore. You would need someone like a professor or student or something to take you inside. I am not sure they allow visitors. But if you get a chance, please do visit. The campus is spread across 2 sides of a very busy road. There is a wonderful underground tunnel connecting the two parts that pays a tribute to the founder of IIM, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. Incidentally he was also the founder of the aforementioned Calico Textiles, and his house was also designed by Le Corbusier.

If you are spending a night in the city, I would strongly urge to go on the night heritage walk offered by The House of MG. It is an about 2 hour guided walk taking that is definitely not to be missed.

Edit: Will need to apply for an e-Visa online. Either way, will do this to make sure i'm covered.

okay...so i did this back in june. i was greeted at the aircraft door by a singapore agent inquiring about my visa. i told him i didn't have one and that i was in transit.
that is when it got weird.
we were met in the terminal by armed security and i was escorted to holding area next to immigration.
a bunch of guys argued with each other as the singapore rep explained my plans.
i was told the flight out could not leave without my reps signature and he would not leave my side.
pretty much everybody took cell phone pictures of my passport and boarding passes.
i just sat smiling and read my book
eventually i was processed through and escorted back to the gate.
security had eyes on me until i boarded the airplane.

so, yes, possible without the visa. if you don't have one, they have to send you back from where you came.
just don't act like an american, be respectful and polite.

I'll just apply for the eVisa so I'm covered regardless.

How long is this fare expected to last for? Can I comfortably wait another month before booking?

I learned from a blogger that he wasn't able to use Book the Cook over the internet for this flight. I guess calling SQ may resolve this.

So a same flight/day turnaround is doable at AMD.
Lounge at AMD (plaza premium) is closed. SGD20 in-flight voucher is given.
An update for October. Same day turnaround still doable.
Touched down at 930pm; back at gate at 1000pm. Plaza Premium Lounge is now open. You need a voucher on top of the boarding pass.

Anyone know when fare basis for either OW or RT expire?

Also, booking D fare with SQ mean 100% EQM toward Alaska status, and 200% RDM + 50-125% elite bonus depend on your status with Alaska?

If I book this trip, I guess I'll just get 10 year India Visa (only $150 for US citizens) and enjoy future trips whenever possible.

Your AS mileage calculations I believe are correct. I booked two of these one being amd-sin-man-iah R/T. Question I have is if the legs sin-man-iah have the same flight number will I only get mileage credit for sin-iah? If so, what happens if I stopover in man?

Same question I have about FRA stopover because I'd utilize stopover in FRA to see Europe for little bit (obviously, you can get to any part of Europe from FRA). I know SQ treat JFK-FRA-SIN as one flight as if you fly JFK-SIN.

With big AS bonus on this kind of fare, it's probably make sense to fly to AMD (could stack it up with another ex-AMD fare if deal is around).
