Nice fare, but only Monday through Wednesday departures and Tuesday through Thursday return, so effectively a six day minimum stay requirement.

The United fare permits 1 free stopover in REK/LIS/OPO in each direction, which can let you dump the GB on the way home ($2,400 r/t). Even allows routing LON-REK/LIS/OPO-one more Europe-US.
No seasonality on the fare, but it carries a 180-day AP and, as Kacee notes must be outbound MTW and inbound TWR. Ticket by 13-Aug-18.

If you want to get fancy, you can do SFO-EWR-FRA-LIS-LHR-LIS (stop)-FRA-EWR-SFO for $2,477 and 32,362 PQM. Possibly a bit better as TP is a poor partner.

Low 2s to Europe can be had several times per year; this may be the best it ever gets specifically for the SFO/LHR citypair. It's currently published with a ticket-by of 13-Aug-18, so lasting long enough to ticket a 31-Jul-19 flight seems unlikely.

Lufthansa opens bookings 360 days in Advance
Since British Air opens up schedule 355 days in advance, it looks like I may be able to do this with them .By my calculations there is only 347 days between August 18 2018 anf July 31 2019. So I could actually book on August 10th. Have I figured this correctly?
So if I check Lufthansa when they open up bookings, 5 days before British Air, and find the fare should Inbook it or would Indare wait for British air in hopes something would be available. The Lufthansa flight entails a connection in Munich and 3 more hours flight time. Lufthansa leaves sfo at 10 pm so we could get a good nights sleep, which is the main concern
Thanks for any advice. My wife has a bit of a leg problem and lie flat would really help. Cant really afford $4109 but $2500 would be ok.

It's definitely worth waiting and hoping for. No guarantees that the fare does not get pulled before its expiry though - deals are quite volatile.
I personally enjoy the TATLs which leave late enough to get full sleep on, although the afternoon/evening arrival means you're still getting thrown for a loop.

A couple of years ago <$2K spot sales were common on BA with the AARP discount applied (it used to be $400). However many of those required an onward connection through LHR to FCO etc. This is a great fare nowadays for UA SFO-LHR direct.
